Some American trash here and a new dance move there, this weekend we're not playing by the rules. From eating some taxidermy in Wapping, a couple of shopping picks (quirky and designer), a Hackney festival and a Duffin Sundae, 'tis a weekend without a theme. And we like it. See you on Monday!

Kopparberg Urban Forest

Sponsored listing

It’s the last weekend of the Kopparberg Urban Forest (boo!), so if you haven’t already, this is the weekend to get lost in the woods, starting with live music by Kal Lavelle, Battle of You, and Stephanie O’Brien on Thursday, followed by a club takeover by Giant on Friday, and live sets by Project Fresh Socks, Last Lynx, The Line of Best Fit DJs and MØ. And finally, bid adieu to the forest on Sunday with the sounds of Bernhoft, Dagny, and Mike Wyatt. And if you’re wondering what’s next for the Dalston Carpark once Kopparberg has upped sticks? A micro-bakery a.k.a. The Dusty Knuckle Bakery will be moving in with a mission to encourage youngsters to rise (sorry) above a life of crime. Catchy name, good cause, and fresh bread – we’ll be there!

Kopparberg Urban Forest, 2 July - 3 August, free entry, Abbot Street Car Park, located off Kingsland High Street, Dalston, E8 3DP

OPENING CEREMOMY AT THE ACE HOTEL

The New British are at it again. Following on from their screenings at the V&A of eight short documentary films comes their latest, ‘Release’. Premiering tonight at the London EDITION, it’s a short documentary film on shuffling, the dance subculture that has its own sound, fashion and attitude. And if inspiration takes hold, join the after-party in the basement for some authentic shuffle tunes (and moves).   The Ace Hotel is still coming up trumps thanks to its latest addition, Opening Ceremony. Following in the footsteps of its New York sister in midtown, the store is a petite version of the flagship (think a hotel gift shop), selling a tightly curated selection of designer wares, accessories and design bric-à-brac. Opening Ceremony via the Ace - we like.

BRUNCH:
STAX DINER
  PARTY:
VISIONS FESTIVAL 2014

American trash food – we're not done just yet. Stax Diner is giving the ‘cuisine’ a much-needed shake up, thanks to its owner Bea Vo (of Bea's of Bloomsbury). For brunch, head there for Deep South classics: from fried chicken and waffles, French toast served with caramelised bananas and walnuts to the more inventive Cajun onion (a deep fried onion served with garlic dipping sauce). Dessert wise, forget the Cronut, here, it’s all about the brownie doughnut a.k.a. the Duffin Sundae.   Time to party in Hackney at the annual day-to-night Visions Festival. From 2pm onwards, expect the main party lairs of the borough (London Fields Brewhouse, Oval Space, The Laundry, New Empowering Church and Netil House) to be taken over by gigs, DJ sets, record fairs, art exhibitions, and more. Plus, for all you trend-seekers out there, don’t forget to check out Visions Market in association with Brooklyn Mash – a festival of what’s next in food, music, film books and beer–all of life’s good stuff.

EAT:
Feast at Tobacco Dock
  SEE:
THE CORNERSHOP

Take a break from the Street Feast circuit and head over to the original that started it all – FEAST at the Tobacco Dock. For this weekend only, do a whistle stop tour of London’s restaurants (Hutong, Aqua Shard, Chop Shop, Peyton and Byrne), street food vendors (Pop Dogs, Anna Mae’s Mac ‘n’ Cheese, and Roasticini, to name a few) and bars (Meantime Brewing Company, Union Street Bar and Christabels). Plus, expect cocktail masterclasses and some quirkier options such as an Eat Your Own Taxidermy class. Yes, really.   Keeping on the quirky train of thought, end your Sunday at The Cornershop, a shop featuring 4,000 products in which every single item (including the fridge and till) has been made from felt. Artist Lucy Sparrow spent seven months fabricating the replicas: think toilet rolls, Spam cans, and confectionery, all available to purchase. But the only catch? You can only take your ‘groceries’ home once the exhibition closes at the end of the month.

FAST FOOD GETS A HEALTH KICK

Forget about the stock standard sushi lunch at the desk. In the health-food era of London, we don’t just want fresher options; we want it cooked, juiced or pressed and served straight to our tables. Luckily there’s been an onslaught of new delivery services promising to do just that. There’s the weekly snack box from Primal Snack Box, for those who get the 4pm munchies, or for a fuller lunch, try Lunch Box London. Hooked on the juice cleanse trend? Juice Well delivers to central London, and for those who want the bespoke package – Sprout Market offer a tailored 5 day meal programme, straight to your door.
