This weekend Wimbledon and Glasto may be in the headlines but if you’re not fussed then cast your eyes over our mix of weekend picks. We start with some prawnography and a bit of French cuisine, before an all out Pride blow out, which would make the late, great Madame Jojo proud. Sunday, we’re winding down with a backyard BBQ and sliding down some contemporary art. Still feeling the pinch of missing Glastonbury? No worries, we have a satellite party in London – no mud. Enjoy.

TOP 5

raw restaurants

1. Fans of M RAW, good news: they’re launching a sushi bar specialising in organic quinoa sushi, homemade biltong and boa buns plus bits of caviar and lobster - it’s just that kind of place

2. However for a strict raw meal (vegan friendly, dairy free and nothing heated above 42C/118F), head to the sleek La Suite West hotel in Bayswater and its restaurant, Vantra Vitao

3. For those in the Oxford Street area, try vegan café RAW for its gluten-free, raw, low-sugar, low-GI and macrobiotic dishes without any hippy clichés

4. An oldie but a goodie, Nama Foods in Notting Hill, even for those not on a raw diet, try the fermented blueberry cheesecake

5. It wouldn’t be a list without Tanya’s Café in Chelsea: raw tacos, sprouted raw buckwheat gnocchi and cold press cocktails

The roots of the Kopparberg
Urban Forest reawaken

for a second summer in East London

Sponsored listing

We’re still buzzing from the fun in the sun, cider-drinking and tune-tapping festivities of last week’s Kopparberg Urban Forest – fuelled by the rhythms of DJ Yoda and Norman Jay, and we’re already planning this week’s visit. From Leddra Chapman on Wednesday and the electronic sounds of Karin Park on Thursday to the acid punk assault of Horsefight on Friday and, of course, Supa Dupa Fly’s cannon of a hip hop day on Saturday – it’s gonna be a big weekend. However, for those who can only make it on Sunday, expect the smooth sounds of soul, funk, boogie and R ‘n’ B via BBC Radio and MTV Base legend Trevor Nelson. See you in the forest. Get in the mood, courtesy of Swedish born popstar Karin Park.

The Kopparberg Urban Forest. June 10 – June 12, free entry. Open every Wednesday to Sunday. Wednesday – Friday: 4pm-11.00pm, Saturday – Sunday: 12pm-11.00pm
37 – 41 Whitepost Lane, Hackney Wick, E9 5EN. Next to Hackney Wick Overground station.

FRIDAY

EAT:
Prawnography
  EAT:
Les Deux Salons

The Old Street roundabout has been doing some interesting things of late, namely its reincarnation into the ‘Magic Roundabout’. Accessible only via Old Street tube station, look for the sign to Old Street Terrace / The Magic Roundabout, and a seaside fishermen hut on the roundabout is what you’ll find. Prawnography is, as you would expect, all about seafood. From the charred 12-inch prawns and whole crabs to the fish and prawn sliders, pretend it's summer and dig in.   Now for a slice of Parisian life. Head to the new (but old) Les Deux Salons in Covent Garden. Taken on by Prescott & Conran (the same people behind the Albion), the ground floor is now a hive of activity with its all-day café, bistro, bar and wine shop. However, traditionalists should go upstairs for a classic French restaurant with Gallic fare: think fois gras terrine, steak tartare and lobster bisque on white linen.

WUT!?CLUB's Tropical Fiesta: London Pride Extravaganza

Like we said, off with the Wellies. Head to the Oval Space terrace today for a taste of the five-day fest. With everything from a live five-piece cover band to a back-to-back Kanye West soundtrack and even live screenings from Glastonbury itself, this is as close as you’ll get sans Winnebago – which is no bad thing.   For those still mourning the loss of Madame Jojo’s, good news – a new venue by the same team has popped up in what was the old Pigalle club. Like Jojo’s, come here for Kitsch Cabaret, club nights, album launches, and after-parties. As far as tonight is concerned, East London’s WUT!?CLUB and their hip-hop fabulous posse have winged their way into Electric Carousel for a tropical Pride Special. Strike a pose!

  EAT:
TOWN HALL YARD

Belgian artist Carsten Höller has taken over the Hayward Gallery with interactive installations, inside and out. Described as the "Willy Wonka of contemporary art", playfulness is a fortunate by-product of the exhibitions ‘decision-making’ theme. Fly over the Waterloo Bridge, go down the spiral slide, walk through some eerie air ducts and have a go on the flying machines – all in the name of art.   Heads up for those who like their outdoor drinking and dining – Town Hall Yard launches this weekend (Saturday, Sunday and soon-to-be every Friday). Held in Town Hall Hotel's newly opened astro-turfed yard, we’re told to expect negronis, G&Ts and skinny coladas on tap via Peg + Patriot with The Corner Room on barbeque duty. Pray for rays!

DO NOT DISTURB

Purobeach, Barcelona

In A Sentence
Urban beach club by the well-known Puro brand.

About
In Barcelona, if you’re not a beach goer, and not at a hotel with a pool, it can be a very urban sweat vibe come summer. But at the new Puro Barcelona, you can dip, dine, and drink, all with the urban city skyline in the background – even if you’re not a hotel guest.

The Vibe
If you’ve been to Puro before (#UJloves the one in Palma), you know the drill. Billowing whites on the staff, sunshine sustenance (sushi, light salads, well spiced seafood), all washed down with rosé by day, stronger cocktails by night. Music plays from sunrise to end of day, and massages can be arranged. There are kids, so make sure you choose wisely when you’re selecting a lounger, and check the schedule for special events throughout the summer – Love Brunch recently held a party here.

Highlights
UJ says spend the day here, have a late lunch at Xiringuito Escriba, wander around town, then head back for sunset and drinks. Being up high has its perks.
