FRIDAY

SHOP:
Showroom Shoreditch
  EAT:
Hotel Chantelle

Showroom, a new concept store and emerging designers collective curated by Kelly Jackson, the creator of jewellery brand Only Child, has opened in Shoreditch. Expect a shop filled with items you never knew you needed, but desperately do – from clothing and jewellery to art and interiors. Think some ram skulls here, an infinity coffin there and chunky quartz crystals everywhere.   And now to Marylebone for the latest New York import, Hotel Chantelle. The lower east side restaurant and club comes to our side of the pond with promises of “upscale American dining with fun French fare”, from waffle-crusted fried chicken with maple syrup cotton candy to tuna tartare and brunch specials of frosted cornflakes-stuffed French toast. And it’s not just the menu that is NY-inspired, late night dining will be available between Thursday and Saturday until 3am. So if you need us…

Defected presents Glitterbox at Ministry of Sound

And back to Shoreditch for the inaugural Dazed Fashion Forum. Similar concept to the Vogue Fashion festival but, you know, the Dazed way: talks by Gareth Pugh, Nicola Formichetti and, of course, Jefferson Hack. Plus, hear from fashion’s unsung heroes such as composer Frédéric Sanchez, who mixes for shows like Prada and Comme des Garçons and take part in some live demonstrations, such as an audience photo shoot by Rankin.   Now for the D.I.S.C.O debut of Ibiza’s Glitterbox in London. Taking influence from the infamous Studio 54 parties of the late 70s and early 80s, East Creative Agency (the team behind Sink The Pink) will be bringing their dance collective along for the ride, fuelled by headliners Cerrone, Juan MacLean and Joey Negro on decks. Ibiza meets London, meets disco, oh my!

SUNDAY

WATCH:
Eden
  EAT:
Red’s True Barbecue

More music. Finish up your Sunday with Eden, the new film which follows the rise and fall of Paul, a teenager in the underground electro scene of early-nineties Paris. Think sex, drugs, and music… Daft Punk kinda music…   Earlier this week we said we were expecting OTT savoury desserts from America to hit soon. And, true to our word, the doughnut burger has hit the capital via Red’s True Barbecue. Think two patties, cheese, bacon and crispy onions inside two glazed doughnuts. Other dishes on the menu include bacon-wrapped jalepenos, swine fries, and the Ox Cheek Bone Luge (shredded ox cheek on bone marrow with a shot of bourbon). Only for the brave!

The Hoxton, Amsterdam

In A Sentence
The Hoxton Hotel’s first European bolthole – and it’s ‘dam chic.

About
Banish thoughts of stag dos and the Red Light district, The Hoxton, Amsterdam has put the Dutch capital back on everyone’s radar – for all the right reasons. Perfectly located in Herengracht, it's in the central canal district, which means you’re part of the Nine Streets. For those not familiar, this is where you want to be – nine insta-perfect streets of shops, cafes, bars, and galleries, all part of the UNESCO Heritage listed Amsterdam Canal Belt. Location, location, location!

The Vibe
If you’ve been to the Shoreditch and Holborn hotels you may think you know the drill: laptop tapping by day, cocktails by night– and yes, The Hoxton, Amsterdam has all of that – but here it feel’s more luxe. High restored monumental ceilings, canal views, a spiral staircase and plush velvet sofas – all done by local interior design duo Nicemakers, inspired by the building’s history as home to the Mayor of Amsterdam in the 17th century. However, in saying that, it’s still The Hoxton, meaning expect the trendy footfall, buzzing bar vibes and keep your ear to the ground for parties held in the ‘Apartment’ (Vice was throwing one when we were there). The restaurant, Lotti’s, run in partnership with Soho House is, as you would expect, bustling, fun and laid-back. But, you’re on holiday, so explore the scene. If you have the time, take a boat to Vuurtoreneiland – or “Lighthouse Island” – Amsterdam’s latest pop-up restaurant, a unique open-sided structure made of wood and glass, perfect for languid summer evenings. Bookings are essential.

Highlights
Apart from the location, decor and buzzing atmosphere, it’s the rooms that got us. 111 rooms spread over three floors, in three different categories (shoebox, roomy and spacious). All stylish, modern yet classic. Tick, tick and tick.

Top Tip
If you’re after a ‘roomy’ room, but with added trimmings, email and request the Monumental room (it can’t be booked, only requested). Restored fully to its 17th century glory to protect its listed status, expect a grand room with your own private entrance in and out of the building.
