Drinks in loos, a felt porn shop, meatballs done all ways and doughnut cocktails… these are just some of the things on our weekend hit list. We’ve also compiled our favourite spots for martinis (‘tis London Cocktail Week, after all), a banger of a birthday party and a BFI London Film Festival screening… all in a weekend’s work.

Tonight

Freixenet takeover at Ladies and Gentlemen

A bit of fizz in a public toilet? Oh, go on then. Part of London Cocktail Week, Spanish sparkling wine producers Freixenet have teamed up with Ladies and Gentlemen, the bar in a former Victorian toilet, for some cava cocktails. Come here for their menu of three different sparklers – “Conquistador”, “the Catalan Rose” and the “Twinkle Toes” – and stay for their boilermaker pairings (that’s beer and shot combos).

Freixenet takeover at Ladies and Gentlemen, 2 Highgate Road NW5 1NR, 5pm - late

DO:
Madame Roxy's Erotic Emporium Solo Show by Lucy Sparrow
  PARTY:
Unleash 4th Birthday x 15 Years of Moon Harbour with Matthias Tanzmann

Remember Lucy Sparrow, the artist who stitched an entire corner shop? Well, she’s back, but this year she’s created a Soho sex shop entirely from felt: felt porn mags, DVD covers, S&M bondage gear – it’s quite the list. A reaction to the new prudent laws, Sparrow spent six months stitching the complete sex shop, which, were the exhibits not made from felt, would be illegal. Plus, all the fuzzy felt seediness is for sale – proving, perhaps, that sex does sell.   Prepare yourself for a 7am finish. Party promoters Unleash are turning four, and they’re having a birthday bash to celebrate. They’re teaming up with Moon Harbour’s head man Matthias Tanzmann alongside a roster of DJs for a night of deep techno and underground house beats at the Coronet Theatre… not for the faint hearted.

TOP 5

places to sip a martini

1. Straight from Barcelona to London, Dry Martini has over 80 varieties of gin. Decisions, decisions

2. If you like your martinis extra dry, pull up a seat at 69 Colebrooke Row

3. Coffees by day and espresso martinis by night at Shoreditch Grind. Two birds, one stone

4. The famous Connaught Martini at Connaught, only quietly stirred and never shaken

5. The Bone Dry Martini at the White Lyan, crafted with in-house spirits and ingredients sans ice. You’ll either love it or loathe it

EAT:
SHOTGUN
  DRINK:
68 and Boston

After the success of The Lockhart in Marylebone, make room for another hit of the Deep South by Mississippi-born chef Brad McDonald. Alongside the barbecue there’s also hearty daytime sandwiches and interesting snacks and small plates that shouldn’t be missed – think pig ear and sour pancakes, eel and mash and hot tamales. As for us, we’re heading in for the cocktails, mixed by Matt Whiley (aka The Talented Mr Fox), which include home made sarsaparilla, avocado milk and… doughnuts.   A new cocktail and wine bar has opened in Soho, dangerously close to UJ HQ – and it comes with serious credentials -- Eric Yu (owner of Opium), Martin Malley (owner of Planet of the Grapes) and Luca Cordiglieri (ex-bar manager of China Tang at the Dorchester). It’s really two venues in one: 68 is the wine bar downstairs, with all bottles priced at £20, and upstairs is Boston, the louche cocktail bar serving up classics for £10 by waiters in white tuxedos. Fancy.

EAT:
The Bowler
  WATCH:
Bone TomAhawke

Meatballs are having a moment. First came Balls & Company and now, make way for The Bowler. Brainchild of meatball maverick Jez Felwick, the ballsy takeout will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner, with variations of the classic meatball such as beef chuck and chorizo, vegetarian ‘balafal’, lamb and feta kofta, and green chilli chicken, all served inside handmade pittas or atop salads.   Finish your meatballs and head down the road to Odeon Leicester Square for BFI London Film Festival’s screening of Bone Tomahawk. Starring Kurt Russell and already tipped to be a ‘cult classic’, the gun-slinging movie may not be for everyone – but if you like your western/horror genres sliced with violence, book your ticket now.
