This weekend it’s all about art: Friezing in Regent’s Park, queuing for discount Emins and drinking to the art of tequila… we’ve got our paddles ready. Plus, we have a sweet 16 to attend, some bollocks to get through and we’re paying a visit to a Sultan’s tent. For sustenance in between, we’ve got modern Italian on Friday, Turkish on Saturday and American on Sunday. Enjoy.

FRIDAY |

EAT:
BERNARDI’S |
DRINK:
Les Couilles du Chien |
Adding to the recent influx of new restaurant openings on Seymour Street: The Zetter Townhouse Marylebone, Lurra, and now Bernardi’s. The modern Italian menu takes its cues from antipodean Italians with fresh, non-traditional dishes such as pumpkin and gorgonzola arancini, artichoke risotto and charred squid. That said, the thing that has us most excited? The 28-strong list of Vermouths. |
Now, go balls deep at Soho’s latest bar underneath Arbutus, Les Couilles du Chien (translation: dogs’ balls). The main star here is the wine list, using the Coravin wine method, meaning top bottles are all available by the glass. Otherwise, stick to cocktails such as prune negronis, pea and basil cocktails with, of course, a side of crisp lamb testicles and tripe. Lovely.

UJ Radar: |

India |
Right now, India is on the brain. It all started with cult Indian concept store, Bombay Electric, popping up at Selfridges doing saris the London way – prints by Katrantzou, Kirkwood, Pilotto, Roksanda… the list continues. Then, there’s the Fabrics of India exhibition, which has turned the V&A into a bazaar of colourful fabrics, Sultan’s tent and all. And now, Dishoom Carnaby has opened with an achingly Instagrammable-interior: think Wes Anderson meets 60s Bombay. Next, we’re predicting a major Indian street food trend with the opening of Hoppers, the latest restaurant by Karam Sethi, bringing the classic dishes of Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka to our capital. |

EAT:
Mangal 1.1 |
DRINK:
NT's |
One of our favourite mangal restaurants, Mangal Ocakbasi, has opened a second branch in Shoreditch’s Comedy Café Theatre & Bedroom Bar. The menu may be shorter than the original stalwart, but we’re still expecting long lines for the simple menu of juicy chops, charcoal grilled kebabs and mezzes. |
Night Tales has (finally!) gone bricks and mortar with the launch of NT's, their new bar in London Fields. Part of Netil House, the bar will be serving up seasonal cocktail menus and melted cheese toasties, courtesy of street food vendors Morty & Bob. It’s open all week, but head in on the weekends for bottomless brunches with live music.

EAT:
Rita’s X Merchants Tavern |
PARTY:
Fabric’s 16th Birthday |
As far as collaborations go, Rita’s X Merchants Tavern is as chalk-and-cheese as you get – but we’re not complaining. For a one-off evening, Merchants Tavern will be swapping their sophisticated European dishes for unusual combos of mussels, chipotle and schmaltzed (drunk) tomatillo, venison with chestnut grits, collard greens and pickled beets and dessert of madeleines with lemon curd. Drinks are called ‘sharpeners’, so expect strong and boozy. |
Pull an all-weekender to celebrate Fabric’s sweet 16. Open all weekend from Friday straight through to Sunday, the line up is a mixture of UK and international house talent, with the likes of Jamie Jones, Ricardo Villalobos, Dan Ghenacia, Paranoid London and residents Craig Richards and Terry Francis (and many more). As for us, we’ll be tackling this like Berghain and heading in on Sunday morning. |

Amsterdam Dance Event |
With the recent opening of W Amsterdam and the Amsterdam Dance Event in full swing, the Dutch capital is firmly on our radar. If you’re there, your must-dos should include ‘Who’s In Town’ with UJ faves Hot Since 82 and the Mixmag takeover party, featuring the champions of electronic music Miss Kittin alongside a host of big names in electro and house music. Both nights are at the W Amsterdam, so you know where you should rest your head. Oh, and no need to RSVP, both events are free, just get there early.
