BOOK:
Bar Brutal at Brawn

Sept 11

This has us excited. Bar Brutal, one of our favourite spots in Barcelona (if only for their epic natural wine list) will be heading to London for a one-day takeover at Brawn – another UJ fave. Celebrating La Fiesta de la Diada (Catalunya’s national day), this dream team collaboration will include a special Sunday sharing lunch menu, plus an exclusively Catalan wine list for the day. Although lunch ends at 4pm, expect to keep going into the evening, fuelled by salty snacks and fast flowing vino and vermouth.

Bar Brutal at Brawn, September 11, 49 Columbia Road, E2 7RG .
Lunch: 12 – 4pm, £25/head. Book: 020 7729 5692

EAT:
KILN

Opens Sept

Another favourite. Ben Chapman of Smoking Goat is set to open his highly anticipated second restaurant, Kiln – a ‘side-of-the-road-type restaurant’ with a grill focus. Think lamb skewers served with chilli, cumin and fresh Szechuan pepper, roast suckling pig, curried cockles, roasted goose… the list goes. Plus, there’ll be a daily noodle dish, such as the impressive-sounding pressed duck gravy noodles, made by the juices of roasted duck carcasses crushed in a custom-built press. Serious.

Kiln, 58 Brewer Street, W1F 9TL

NATURE’S YIELD AT HEDDON STREET KITCHEN BY GEORGE SIMMONS

For art in a glass, look no further than Nature’s Yield at Heddon Street Kitchen. Created by talented mixologist George Simmons, his take on the G&T includes sage tonic, martini riserva speciale ambrato (vermouth), orange pearls and Bombay Sapphire. Oh, and it’s served with a juniper bonsai tree embellished with tonic flavoured droplets (kind of like tonic caviar!). Make no mistake, this is an unadulterated OTT Ultimate Gin & Tonic and that’s the best part about it.

What happens when you are declared an enemy of the state simply for making art? Where do you belong when your government suppresses your basic right to expression? How do you survive in one of the most brutal prison systems in the world?

This new theatre production shines a light on the suppression of artistic freedoms, drawn from the real-life stories of Russian performance artist Petr Pavlensky, incarcerated Ukrainian filmmaker Oleg Sentsov and Maria Alyokhina, who makes her stage debut.

WATCH:
No Man's Land with Ian Mckellen & Patrick Stewart

From Sept 8

After a recent sell-out on Broadway, the absurdist play by Nobel Prize winner Harold Pinter has hit the West End. And, surprisingly, tickets are still available, though we predict they won’t be for long. Starring Ian Mckellen and Patrick Stewart, both men play two drunken writers who fall into a power play as they booze into the night, only to be interrupted by two unexpected arrivals.

No Man’s Land with Ian Mckellen & Patrick Stewart, Charing Cross Road, WC2H 0DA. From September 8
