Meat, Meat, Meat!
January. Detoxes and dry promises. But here at UJ, we have all eyes on MEAT! Sure meat in the capital is nothing new- MEATliquor and Pitt Cue, Hawksmoor, Blacklock, Smokey Tails, Smokestack and most recently Temper – we could go on, but there’s more to come.
You’ll have to wait for this one, but we’re excited. Monty’s Deli – the Druid street market institution – has found a permanent home in Hoxton and is set to open in April. Meat is at the heart of the deli’s Jewish soul food; Monty’s is one of the only places in the UK to make their pastrami and salt beef in-house from scratch. Reubens are on the menu for lunch of course, whilst dinner will consist of whole joints of hot pastrami or salt beef, with sides of brisket, bone marrow and dill meatballs.

Head south of the river if you like things a little lighter. Borough Market-based charcuterie connoisseurs Cannon & Cannon are set to open Nape – their first full dining experience in Camberwell – this February. No prizes for guessing that Nape (the English name for traditional Italian coppa salami) is the speciality, alongside dishes including air-dried West Country beef, port and juniper-cured smoked mutton and British nduja and honey on toast.

If you want to get more hands on, there’s Ceviche’s Goat Roast Sundays, where you can have a ‘Goat Masterclass’ and learn how to get the most out of the meat. Following that, sit down to a traditional Peruvian goat roast feast featuring beer braised lamb, roasted goat in a Peruvian spice rub, grilled goat, and Panca marinated goat cutlets. That’s a lotta goat.

Now, it’s time to (m)eat!
