Just A Bit Of Fun

Queens: Skate-Dine-Bowl

We get it. You’re stuck in the city for the foreseeable future as everyone else hops from Balearic beach parties to country house retreats. And while small plates and spritzes are perfect for a mid-week debrief when summer sets in, we all need something more from time to time. Grab all your friends left in London, and book in for some proper old-school fun.

Queens: Skate-Dine-Bowl has just finished their biggest renovation in their 86 year history, opening their doors to London’s only year-round indoor skating rink, arcades, roller discos, an on-site Meat Liquor, and of course, 12 bowling lanes. We recommend rounding up your more competitive friends for chilli dogs and buffalo fries and then seeing how much of Queens you can get through in one night.

Fancy hitting the water? GoBoat London runs central’s only self-drive boating experience from Merchant Square in Paddington. Assemble a crew and explore Camden, the Grand Union Canal, Little Venice and Regent’s Park all from the waterside. Forget rush hour; there’s a different pace once you’re on the water, and these boats only reach a maximum speed of 4mph, so your group can stretch to eight people on board with no previous experience required. Bring a picnic, some aperitifs for everyone on deck (minus the captain) and get a totally different perspective on some of London’s best-loved sites.

And the nights to truly get away from it all? Backyard Cinema are already our go-to for cinematic escapism, and they’ve now created their own slice of Miami’s South Beach in south London. This is the place we’ll head when the storm clouds set in on our picnic. Guests swap shoes for flip flops and are given huge bean bags to settle into before the classics start. We’re talking some serious guilty pleasures to match the decor: Pretty Woman and Grease, Point Break and Top Gun. Ocean Drive might be 4000 miles away, but Backyard Cinema have never been one to let a small issue like the Atlantic get in the way.

Put the daily grind on hold and get out for some good clean fun. All hands on deck!
