Clubbed To Death

Are we really just a city of speakeasies and gastropubs? Maybe it’s a knee-jerk response to all the middling-to-fair cocktails being thrown around this week, but hot-damn if we aren’t craving a good old fashioned knees-up. And clearly we’re not alone.

Ministry – for years a filthy word – has lately been toting its more grown-up VIP spot, complete with private tables, decent cocktails, and a charming hostess who, for a change, isn’t sporting pupils the size of the average US overdraft. Knightsbridge’s Vendome , meanwhile – potentially the new space for the moneyed club-lovers – officially unleashed it’s multi-LED dancefloor on an appreciative mid-LFW crowd last Wednesday. And next Friday sees the legendary Bar Rumba re-launch, out to bring the cracking techno-edged dance lovers from East London back to the West End.

But the secret Ace up our dance-craving sleeves is Matter . The whopping 2,600 capacity venue beneath the O2 centre is the hot space on everyone’s lips at the moment. Launching tonight, and with a first month’s line-up that includes Unkle, Sasha, Carl Cox, and Mylo, it looks set to put Greenwich (back) on the map. Who’d have thunk it?

We might not have the white beaches and quaint fishing villages – but move over Ibiza: London’s back baby, and we’re ready to dance.
