Booze By The Tub

booze by the tub

Jonathan Downey's new Tweat Up and the trend for boozey bathtubs

First came the Hendrick’s bathtub that long fuelled their quaintly debauched events – with its ice and cucumber-filled belly, free-flowing gin and tonic on tap (literally), and blatant misuse of household furniture.

The Worship Street Whistling Shop then launched their private honesty bar, where a rolled-top, botanical-loaded bathtub functions as a bizarre almost-table for communal drinking sessions.

All of which leads us to Jonathan ‘Rushmore’ Downey and his Tweat Up: a fun, semi-impromptu gathering of friendly high-grade foodies. Created to support smaller, much-loved gastropreneurs like Lucky ChipBig Apple Hot Dogs, and Pitt Cue by organising people through Twitter to actually meet these independents on a given day and try their gourmet offerings.

Think of it as an impromptu street party. Call it the secret rave of the older, cleaner, digital generation (last Sunday saw DJ/producer Arthur Baker hit the decks with some unreleased material). And in addition to bringing the foodists together, JD is also keeping the proceedings flowing with a bath full of free, ice-cold Red Stripe and rosé.

So get ready for the  once-humble bathtub. Doing the rounds somewhere near you. Full of booze. This is officially the Summer of the Tub.
