The perfect cake is like the perfect man. It is elusive, it often looks better on the outside than it really is on the inside, and everyone has their own idea of what ingredients go into making it. 

For me this is the perfect cake - flexible, dependable, rustic and unconventional. This cake can stand on its own two feet and it only improves with age. Yes this cake is 'the superior man incarnate'.
If you are ready to graduate from whimsical cupcakes and frilly icing crusted fairy cakes, if you have reached that plateau in your life when you need a cake that can give a little more satisfaction - then make this cake.

 

This cake is wonderful with any juicy fruit - cherries, peaches, apricots, raspberries, persimmons - this cake will envelope them all in its sweet, fluffy batter. This is a cake for life.
