June! This week we have some new terraces in London for you to try, as well as a few new restaurants further afield. We’ve also got some 90s wares, and are feeling inspired by the recent CSM BA Fashion ’24 show. As for hotels, the new Mandarin Oriental Mayfair just officially opened and on the other end of the price scale, there’s a new(ish), rather Wes Anderson-looking Grand Hotel Bellevue in west London, too. Have great weeks all.

The Devonshire
Outdoor Openings
Roofs and terraces

Last week saw two big new Soho rooftops open: The Devonshire’s looks exactly where you want to be come Friday afternoon (if you’re able to get a table; look at that roof!), and Broadwick Soho just opened Flute’s wraparound terrace, for views and all-day dining. In Mayfair, Claridge’s Restaurant has also just opened a chic terrace, complete with a shiny new menu; they’re open from 12pm-10pm Mon-Sat, and until 6pm on Sundays. The main dining room’s à la carte menu is also available during the week at lunch and dinner, which is great.

New Hamptons
For Miami-ites

If monied New Yorkers have the Hamptons, the Banyan Group and developer Rafael Reyes are hoping Miami dwellers will head to Bimini, a Bahamian island 48 miles off the coast, where they’re building “Rockwell Island”, a community of waterfront homes, restaurants and beach clubs set to open in 2025.

Top 5 food finds along Highway 1

The summer has us thinking about road trips, and we recently noticed co-founder of @londontheinside and Global VP of F&B Development at Ennismore, Jules Pearson, take a great one from San Fran to LA. Jules tells us the top 5 things she ate, and where.

What: Oysters and Pearls
Where: The French Laundry, Yountville
Why you loved it: One of Thomas Keller’s signature dishes, the poached oyster is served in a butter sauce, with a mound of caviar and tapioca ‘pearls’ – which means the taste of every mouthful is prolonged due to their texture. An insane dish.

Spa Terminus
London
Our picks

Taking over from Poon’s Wontoneria in Carousel’s No. 23 is a new 23-seater mezcaleria and tostada bar. As for Poon’s, Amy Poon is opening a permanent Poon’s London this month at Spa Terminus in Bermondsey, which will be open Friday and Saturday from 9am-4pm; good luck Amy! Mayfair members’ club, Caviar Kaspia, is now open to the public for their signature caviar baked potato (choose which caviar brand you want, and 30/50/80g depending on how deep your pockets are); Somerset House is getting a new café – this time, a plant-first one; Jackson Boxer has moved into the Henrietta Hotel with Henri (when does this man sleep?!); The Langham has welcomed Michael Roux’s Chez Roux; JKS are opening the Ambassadors Clubhouse this summer, which is an homage to the founders’ grandfather, who was a former Indian Ambassador, taking inspiration from his summer house and north India’s party mansions; coming soon on the party-dining tip is Piraña, a Nikkei restaurant by the Tabū team; and lastly, excellent subterranean Soho cocktail bar Soma will be launching in the city this summer.

Around the world

More F&B you say? Starting with the limited-edition drinks we’ve got our eyes on: Pastaio’s slushy series, which brings four of Rome’s best bars to London via limited-edition slushies, just launched last Saturday with a Garibaldi Riviera slushy from the Jerry Thomas Bar Room and available until 30 June. Belmond’s Reid’s Palace, in Madeira, is hosting their fifth annual gastronomic festival, The Art of Flavours (14-15 June), with dinners, parties, wine tasting, and Michelin-starred chefs from restaurants like Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons and Euskalduna in Porto, as well as some rising stars, mostly from Portugal. In Bodrum, The MAINE is opening this month, and Ritmo Zeytino, a three-month summer restaurant from Istanbul’s Michelin-starred Arkestra team, will open 14 June. And lastly, Le Cordon Bleu is having a summer fest at their London campus on 29 June, with chefs like the Dorchester’s executive pastry chef giving demonstrations, workshops, tastings and more.

PROVENCE

Gallifet
Take Two
Dine and stay

We’re definitely feeling Provence this summer and dinner at Gallifet, the arts centre and garden restaurant in the grounds of an 18th century mansion in Aix-en-Provence, where Josh Dallaway (ex- Sager and Wilde, Bar Bruno) and Sinead Murdoch (Bistro Freddie) are in residence for four months, sounds perfect. If you need a place to stay, onefinestay have just launched a collection of villas in Provence, too.

This is interesting. Boutique London brand Galvan (we love) is now exclusively carrying Gezeiten skincare, which combines marine biotech and microbiome health. We like the packaging, which is a good start!

Disney World App

Disney World has an updated app, and it definitely makes life easier. You can pay a very reasonable upgrade and/or à la carte fee to book a few rides per day so you can use their ‘lightening lanes’ – fingers at the ready at 7am to reserve your favourite. You can also easily switch between parks (Disney, Epcot, Hollywood Studios, Animal Kingdom) to see what’s on, what wait times are, how far it is from you; and if you’re staying at one of their properties you can also use it to order dinner to your room. It acts as a key card, too (yes really).
