 | | | | The Standard, London | Recording Studios | Here, there, everywhere | | Seems like recording studios and spaces are popping up everywhere you look lately. Yes, brands like Soho House and The Standard have had them for awhile, but now we’re seeing them in less likely locations, too. The most recent additions on our radar include a recording studio at the member’s gym Before the Lights; a state-of-the-art music studio in partnership with Seb Glover at the soon-to-launch Mason & Fifth aparthotels in Westbourne Grove; and a recording studio underneath the Nando’s in Soho…

 | | | | | XOXO | Rise of the anonymous voice | | You’re likely following Boringnotcom, the Instagram account that’s anonymously been giving the fashion industry a dose of straight talk for a few months now, and can count some of the industry’s biggest names as followers. And as Frieze just reported, in the art world, London-based spittle publishes thoughts from a collective (but anonymous) voice, and Hollywood Superstar Review operates in a similar way, too. We’re surprised there isn’t one that we know of for the restaurant industry….

 | | | | | Bancone Kensington | NEW | Sponsored Listing | | Michelin Bib Gourmand pasta restaurant Bancone has just opened their fourth location, on Kensington High Street, and have already served over 5,000 bowls of pasta to eager west Londoners! The award-winning restaurant has an extremely dedicated following and they’ve brought some of their much-loved dishes to this new location including silk handkerchiefs with walnut butter and confit egg yolk; spicy pork & nduja ragù with tagliatelle; and cacio e pepe. They’ve also added some excellent new dishes like palourde clams with nduja and burnt bread; confit tomato, gnocchetti sardi with lentil and pickled chilli; and monkfish with saffron mayo and herb salad. The restaurant is spacious, bright and has a terrace, and they have a great cocktail and wine list too.

 | | | | | Noodle and Beer | Around Town | To note | | New
Dumplings’ Legend has just opened a more laid-back site on Chancery Lane, Love Dumplings Legend, which will serve dumplings from breakfast to evening (8am-8pm). Chinatown’s Noodle and Beer looks great (Sichuan noodles, with a sultry red light district-vibes den downstairs for cocktails, that’s open until 4AM Thurs-Sat). Notting Hill’s EEL Sushi, a 12-seater sushi bar by the Notting Hill Fish Shop gang, has just finished its soft launch and is now taking bookings for half of the seats. And opening soon are two Paris-inspired restaurants: Chez Lui, also in Notting Hill, by the Bagatelle Group (but an entirely different beast), and Dumbo in Shoreditch (a Paris transfer, for smashburgers); and lastly, Canal, by the Crispin team, is opening at the end of the month along the Westbourne Park canal.
Events and News
The Engineer in Primrose Hill has reopened after a refurb; Brasserie Zédel has a new ‘Droit Au Bouchon’ evening every Monday from 7:30PM, where you can bring your own bottle of wine to dinner with no corkage fee, or pre-order a bottle from Hedonism Wine’s bespoke French edit, which will be served at your table. Decimo is doing a guest chef series, ‘La Mesa’, to launch their new lunch taco menu; the first dinner is 17 June, with NY’s Doshi and Songsoo Kim (Super 8, LDN), and will be a Korean-Mexican collaborative menu. Finally, you can visit the bar from Wes Anderson’s latest film, The Phoenician Scheme, at Bob Bob Ricard’s Red Room until 22 June.
Terraces
‘Tis the season! A few to note. Canary Wharf’s Marceline has a new wine bar and restaurant terrace; La Môme at The Berkeley has just opened a new 30-seater terrace; Sparrow Italia has a little piece of tranquility on their Mayfair rooftop; and CUT at 45 Park Lane has a seafood and spritz menu in their outdoor space.
Picnics
For a decadent one, Caviar House has a selection of hampers with caviar, bellinis, and Champagne (yes please); and for something gratis, DELLI are doing two ‘ban boring picnics pop ups’ in Brockwell Park (22 June, 12-6) and Victoria Park (28 June, 12-6), where they’ll be handing out free goodies from the independent brands they stock (look at their current picnic selection!).
Wine
Lardo has a new wine bar in Hackney, Bastardo, with low-intervention wine and bites, and it looks fun. Our friend the Winechap (aka Tom Harrow) is hosting a Saint Emillon BYO night at Brunswick House, 2 July (the dream…) and they have six spaces left.
International
Louis Vuitton has a new ice cream kiosk (love) in Forte dei Marmi; Nammos is going to Sardinia’s Phi Beach (13 June-31 August); and L’EscarGO sees LPM in Mykonos offer catering and bartending to private villas, jets, or yachts: Tomatini at home sounds good.
Fish Watch
Relais & Châteaux just published a threatened species seafood list to look out for on menus across the globe: take note.

 | | | | | Getaways | And breathe | | Fowlescombe Farm, at the foothills of the majestic Dartmoor, now has 10 luxury suites, a farm-to-table restaurant, and a concierge. The Britannic Explorer, a Belmond train, now has five different trips that depart from London Victoria and go to Wales, Cornwall, and the Lake District; the trains have an observation car, wellness suite, two dining cars, and an Art Deco bar, swoon. And lastly, Osip, the Michelin-starred restaurant in new Bruton, Somerset, will, as of tomorrow, have four cosy rooms located directly above the restaurant, which is a 17th century coaching inn.

 | | | | | Extremadura | Short break | | Bordering Portugal, this is known as somewhat of a foodie destination in a laidback setting. There’s the three Michelin-starred Atrio, but also, jamon iberico, queso, olive oil, and a whole lot of vino.

 | | | | | | It feels like we blinked and it’s all about aparthotels. And after staying in a few lately, we get it! They make sense, especially for longer stays. Here are two in London: one east with independent/hip everything, and one west, with luxe furnishings and a 24-hour concierge.
