With Frieze just finishing in LA, we were inspired by some of the things we saw coming though, so this issue has a mild LA theme. We hope you like it – have great weeks all.

 | | | | | The Chancery Rosewood and The 4S Punta Mita | | True Luxe | | | The Chancery Rosewood London’s flexible check out policy (‘enjoy the freedom to check-in and out at times that best work for you’ is how it’s phrased on their website) is a breath of fresh air, especially as it’s coming at a time when 4PM check-ins and 11AM checkouts are sneakily becoming the norm. Similarly, at The Four Seasons Punta Mita, there are no menus: simply tell them what you want to eat, when you want it, and they will deliver; true luxury. If not having to make decisions is your idea of luxe, however, at the Ayurveda retreat Engel Ayurpura in the Dolomites, individual menus are tailored to serve you exactly what the doctor orders: no decisions required at all.

 | | | | | | Kiosk-o-thèque is Moving | | | It feels like just yesterday that we covered the launch of Arman Naféei’s Kiosk-o-thèque – a vacant newsstand that he turned into a cultural hub. Now, he’s just closed it to open VILLA AIR next door. Stay tuned: we’re excited to see what’s next.

 | | | | | | Forza Wine Soho | | Around Town – Our Picks | | LDN
New
Forza Wine has just opened a Soho location on Manette Street and it looks great: retro vibes, the same ‘Italian-ish’ small plates, wines and cocktails. Also Italian – the Public House Group (The Pelican, The Hero. Fat Badger) have just opened CeCe’s in Notting Hill and it looks like a new direction for the group, with rather glam Hollywood-inspired dining. Celeste, from the Estelle family (Estella Manor, Maison Estelle), has also opened in Notting Hill with a ground floor restaurant that’s open to all, as well as a members’ club. Close by on Westbourne Grove, Jackson Boxer has teamed up with chef Eduardo Yishima to relaunch Taqueria as TAQ, with a new look, and a new menu that has elements of Boxer’s Dove (i.e. his legendary cheeseburger has been reimagined as a taco) and Orasay (RIP; there’s a fish torta that’s inspired by a snack on his old menu there). Now open.
Coming Soon
More Italian! Padella is opening in Soho – we’re interested to see if there are any new additions. And over in Olympia, as part of its £1.3bn transformation, Pillar Hall is opening this month, with a new restaurant, speakeasy, and live music-led events venue; this is the first of many new openings to come there.
We Love
Bambi 2.0. The eclectic menu includes perfectly executed dishes like whipped ricotta and hot honey, peri peri Atlantic prawns, and an insanely good Thai crab salad with nahm jim, green papaya and sesame; they also have a great wine list and DJs every night, with Fridays and Saturdays transforming into a dancefloor from 11pm-1am.
Need to Try
We love the sound of Andrew Wong’s new Forbidden City Bar, located under his eponymous A Wong two-Michelin star restaurant. A little looser and a little more fun, with some test kitchen-style dishes and a One Night in Hong Kong happy meal-style menu (love), which offers a more accessible (£55) taste of his menu upstairs.
Event
On Monday 16 March, Manteca and Dumplings’ Legend are teaming up for one day of dim sum x Italian fun at Manteca. Book here.
INTERNATIONAL
NYC
Wild Cherry NYC, located in the recently renovated Cherry Lane Theatre, has a cosy bistro vibe, with a menu that’s based as much on a feeling as its food. Go here for American classics like shrimp cocktail and NY’s finest Off-Broadway theatre.
Paris
La Petite Chaise – the cosy, authentic, and oldest restaurant in Paris – has a new menu for spring.
Vegas
CDMX’s Contramar is heading to Vegas and opening at Fontainebleau 28 March; LA’s Gjelina opened in Vegas last year, too (at The Venetian).
Malibu
Have you seen the viral seafood restaurant going around – Broad Street Oyster Co. – serving up hot dogs with caviar; lobster rolls with uni; Bloody Marys with all the fixings; and 80s-style merch (as above)?

 | | | | | | Sport and Style | | | Recently launched, Practice Magazine is a new platform from a team of ex-Face, Prada, Burberry and Palace people that looks at the relationship between sport and style. Along similar lines, Carine Roitfeld’s Players Magazine was created to provide a more elevated take on sport and fashion; Issue 2 is out now. Speaking of style and sport: did anyone not see Harry’s Runner’s World cover? We’ll have the Donald hat please; it seems likely that a collection will follow, which would be a welcome addition to the current workout wear offering.

 | | | | | | Erewhon West Hollywood | | Shop News | | | Continuing on our slight LA theme, a little shop news. Canadian retailer Aritzia is looking at a London store on Regent Street, and has also bought the iconic Fred Segal store in LA – we’re hoping they do something interesting with it. Hermès has just bought two connecting properties on Rodeo Drive, meaning their new flagship will be twice the size of its existing boutique. And over in West Hollywood, Erewhon just opened, with lengthy queues to match.

 | | | | | | Clubs | | | In London, Palais, the new club south of the river, has a no-phone policy, which we applaud. In Ibiza, Amnesia turns 50 this year on 19 Sept, and Haçienda’s classical orchestra will be joining them for a night of celebrations. Also in Ibiza, the season kicks off with the International Music Summit on April 22-24; soon! And lastly, for a different type of club, legendary London nightlife name Tramp will soon be opening at The Chancery Rosewood London as Tramp Health – a very 2026 re-invention, and just maybe the jolt that modern wellbeing needs.

 | | | | Disney x Gentle Monster | | | Bobby Kim, co-founder of LA streetwear label The Hundreds, is now Disney’s first creative director of merch (how did this not exist before?). His Disney x Gentle Monster x F1® collab launched last Saturday – and just like that, Formula One has immediately become much more fun.

 | | | | | | Skin and Scent | | | Dover Street Market has expanded its beauty section and recently had a skincare pop up with the brand Monastery, in Paris; expect more ‘Skin Sanctuary’ pop ups to follow. In Madrid, Loewe built a scented garden entirely out of paper at Madrid’s largest design festival, Forma. Last weekend was also the CAN Art Fair in Madrid, so a note for the diary: the beginning of March seems like a great time to travel to the Spanish capital.

 | | | | | | Frieze LA Watch | | | Some of the most interesting things we saw come out of Frieze LA were the off-site activations. Two to note include a 99-cent store takeover, where over 100 artists sold their goods every day. Another takeover: Kenny Scharf had a book signing in a car wash, which was fitting as his book documents his project painting psychedelic designs on everyday cars and turning moving traffic into art – sounds a lot better than the plethora of Musk trucks around!
