To the Streets
Back at the time when I had my ear pierced, it seemed like a pretty rebellious act. In hindsight, it probably just looked vaguely gay. And today, if I still wore it, it'd just look out of touch. That's pretty much how street art makes me feel.

With Banksy pieces going for some 400 grand, and street art claiming major exhibition space at the Tate, it's as if these 'anti-establishment' artists have been too busy figuring out how to work the spray can's safety cap to notice that they've been usurped by the mainstream.

Try explaining that to the local authorities here in Barcelona, though, whose Civic Law of 2005 officially branded street art as illegal. In response, art collective Vaqueros de Barcelona has been hosting live 'Wild Painting Parties' and shooting footage of local takes on new school graffiti (no tagging, no text) to add a level of legitimacy to the artform.

The next painting session takes place at the opening of their Holala! Plaza show tomorrow. But if you're afraid that the aerosol fumes will go to your head, sate your street art cravings with Manolo Valdés' sculptures on Rambla Catalunya.
