I
remember when the bars in El Gòtico
were for guiris, uptown for the pijos,
Port Olímpic for the garullos,
Raval for the adventurous, Gayxample for
the gays, and everybody else nibbling
and sampling as they saw fit. |
 |
But
then something happened, with gay nights
at polo shirt bastions like Otto Sutz
and Up & Down, hotels like Me
and Barceló
drawing the Barbour-coated crowds to Poble
Nou and Raval, Lotus
trying to instill some life into Eixample
Dreta, and guiris and locals, god forbid,
increasingly blending everywhere.
So I can't wait to see how Sol Club will
turn out as it reopens as Suite tomorrow.
After all, of the old no-trainers and
jeans school, with music of the kind that
you know the lyrics to, but without the
pedigree of, say, Sutton or Ribelinos,
it used to attract a fairly bland crowd. |
 |
Will
it now draw the rich and beautiful
The poor but upwardly mobile? The
movers and shakers? Or just the
people who got lost in the neighbourhood?
The venue itself is agreeable enough,
so we suspect that, for the launch
party at least, it will attract
anybody who can get away with a
Friday hangover.
