What´s wrong in Helton Hollow? Soon you´ll know. Something Splendid
Autumn fun

October's back. Don't you just hate it?

Summer's a distant dream and everyone's got colds - the only thing keeping us going is twice weekly doses of Match of the Day, but even Gary's lost his sparkle.

The Raindance Film Festival opens. Don't miss the naffly titled Wilderness Survival For Girls. Until October 10.

Clerkenwell Dressed sample sale is now on at Pennybank Chambers. 12-7pm. 33-35 St John's Square, EC1. Free.

The F-EST art extravaganza opens across the East End.

What we want is something really splendid to tickle our savvy, supercilious, post-modern and ironic Urban Junkies taste buds. Thank f**k then for the temporary new shop called... Splendid.

Like the name suggests, lots of splendid things are going on down at Splendid. The Commercial Street space is selling a host of weird/wonderful artwork, fashion gems and accessories by young designers including pornographic cross-stitch kits, lovesick souvenirs and pig tusked pendants.

Monthlong Vapour festival of indie music opens with Lali Puna at Cargo. 9pm-3am. 83 Rivington St, EC1. £10.

Sancho Panza hots things up at Playtime at Egg. 10pm-6am. 200 York Way N1. £13

Very amusing... and if you fancy sticking around after a spot of shopping there are activities to partake in, too. Throughout October (grr) Splendid are hosting a few events, including tonight's Pyjama Party (classic flicks, popcorn and comfy sofas) and an in-store performance by Spanky The Drag Queen next Friday.

It might save us from October angst, it might not, but whatever; it's a welcome distraction from watching The Farm.

Splendid, 104 Commercial St, E1 - until October 10 Tues-Sat 12-8pm, Sun 11am-8pm
