London’s cultural highlights this SEPTEMBER

And suddenly we're in September. First up it's all about fashion. From exhibitions to documentaries and pop ups, we've got it covered. But for those going on the fashion offensive we have new eats, new hotels, and even some voyages to Istanbul, the Deep South and Ibiza. Happy autumn everyone!

EAT:
FEAST
. . .
Street food festival FEAST is back and celebrating its first birthday. With a roundup of some of the past year's traders, expect a combination of stalwarts such as Patty & Bun, Pizza Pilgrims and Caravan, as well as some new kids on the block, Bob's Lobster, Smokin' Hot Tamales and Paesan. The culinary smorgasbord isn't just about stacking your plates high, either: expect chef sessions with José Pizarro and Robert Ortiz Rosas of Lima, as well as music and cocktails to get the party started.
. . .
The Quadrangle, Guys Hospital, St Thomas Street, London bridge, SE1 9RT, 13-15 September.

WATCH:
Fashion as A religion
. . .
Fashion and religion aren't usually symbiotic, but the latest documentary, Fashion as a Religion, starring Karl Lagerfeld (a "fashion missionary") connects the dots. Expect four hours of glossies vs. the Bible, models vs. angels and shoppers vs. religious followers. Featuring interviews from fashion icons Diane Kruger, Sarah Jessica Parker, Claudia Schiffer, Linda Evangelista, Suzy Menkes and Milla Jovovich (to name a few), this documentary answers age-old questions such as "who is the chicest Pope of them all?" Spoiler alert: it's Pope Pius XII, obviously!

SEE:
East of Mayfair & Roland Mouret
. . .
Keeping in the spirit of all things LFW, Roland Mouret is opening up the doors of his Carlos Place atelier, partnering with gallery East of Mayfair to showcase the work of legendary fashion illustrator Antonio Lopez. Having brought movement and street culture to fashion illustration, the exhibition is set to sell Lopez's colourful works. From pieces that spanned the pages of Vogue, Elle and Harper's Bazaar during the 60s, 70s and 80s to collaborations with Andy Warhol, Grace Jones, Bill Cunningham, Jerry Hall, Jessica Lange, Pat Cleveland, Karl Lagerfeld and Anna Piaggi, this is a fashion feast for the eyes – particularly the Valentino for Vanity (see left).

8 Carlos Place, W1K 3AS, September 14th - October 20th

RESTAURANT:
Berner's Tavern at Edition
. . .
Jason Atherton is at it again. His latest venture, Berners Tavern, in Ian Schrager's London EDITION hotel is joining the brasserie revival. Expect chandeliers inspired by Grand Central Station, banquettes furnished with mohair and leather and round, rift-cut bleached oak tables. And the food – it's an all-day dining brasserie with a contemporary British menu: think Orkney scallop carpaccio served with avocado, radish, jalapeño and lime or grass-fed Buccleuch estate cuts of beef cooked on a charcoal grill. Of course, there's also a Sunday Roast, Atherton style – Devon Red Ruby beef with all the trimmings. Book now!

Opens September 12

For those not content just to watch London Fashion Week, The British Fashion Council is opening up its first shop, The Shop at London Fashion Week. And being the BFC and LFW, it's all about quirky London labels! Expect capsule collections from the likes of Sophia Webster, House of Holland, Markus Lupfer, Bella Freud, Prism, Dominic Jones, Zoe Jordan and Lulu & Co. Plus, The Shop will also host flash sales, musical performances, readings, interviews and guest appearances.

DRINK:
Whiskey & Bourbon Colonial Common: A Filling Station by Teroforma
. . .
America's Deep South is heading to London via the Colonial Common, part of the London Design Festival, a nine-day whiskey and bourbon bar experience. Sip your way through the various types of brown spirits and cocktails as you take in the design elements of whiskey stone designers Teroforma. For a bit more low country to the Colonial Common, expect bluegrass music and southern style dishes aplenty from food trucks by Beard to Tail, Joe's Southern Fried Chicken and Anna Mae's.
. . .
Teroforma Filling Station, 14-22 September, 1 Kingsland Road Shoreditch, E28 AA

HOTEL:
Ace Hotel
. . .
Ace Hotel has finally landed in Shoreditch. Designed with a hipster blueprint in mind, expect a creative, bohemian and intimate vibe. And, in keeping with the haute hipster theme, the hotel's hotly anticipated restaurant Hoi Polloi will be run by the guys behind east end favourites Bistrotheque and Shrimpy's. Expect a modernist brasserie offering all-day dining and drinking. Now to wait for booking lines to open…watch this space!

INTERNATIONAL:
Istanbul Biennale
. . .
Heading to Istanbul? Take note of the 13th Istanbul Biennale. Taking over the city with a "Mom, am I Barbarian?" theme from poet Lâle Müldür's book, the festival will focus on public space as a political forum. How apt. Alongside the official gallery space (which is a primary school), the city is ripe with arty happenings, from films and writing workshops, to poetry readings, panel discussions and exhibitions held at warehouses and the historic SALT Galata.

September 14- 20 October, £20
Pitt Cue Co, 1 Newburgh Street, W1F 7RB
