Say Cheese!

Our fromage obsession is going nowhere

From raclette to fondue, queso fundido to poutine, there’s no denying it: our cheese infatuation is here to stay, and for autumn, it’s going old school. Alongside toasties and street eats, it’s about bringing a slice home, too.

Lambs Conduit Street’s long-awaited La Fromagerie opened its doors to Bloomsbury yesterday, and we’ll be looking to their tutored tasting events in the downstairs courtyard to brush up on our fromage intel. Islington’s Chapel Market hosts Cheese Street N1 this autumn, bringing the likes of Kupros Dairy, Quickes Dairy, Blackwoods Cheese and Wildes Cheese together for tastings and masterclasses, alongside street food favourites Raclette Brothers, Mac to the Future and Grill My Cheese. And if you need a fix en route, track down Holly Chaves’ Wine & Rind at St Pancras, where the humble cheese and pickle toastie is finally getting the attention it deserves.

Stock up for a special occasion or give in to temptation – there’s always seconds.

Taco Queen

Those battered avo tacos have a new home

Taco Queen has migrated from its subterranean residency at Rye Wax to a new permanent location on Peckham’s Rye Lane, and we couldn’t be happier. It means an extended drinks menu, and more of those cornflake-coated Baja delights.

The Weekend

We like our weekends perfectly balanced – a damn good Friday night dance, Saturday taking in the city’s usually-hidden architecture and a Sunday feast, American style.
