…for those who don’t go to Glastonbury, the end of June definitely feels different without the annual musical blowout. With this in mind, this weekend we’ll be creating our own rabbit hole. Kicking things off on Friday we’re headed for a bit of Perrier-Jouët with our art at Masterpiece London. Then, come Saturday, following last weekend’s Krankbrother street party in Shoreditch, it’s all about the day party. We say head over to Mick’s Garage for drinks and dancing from 2pm – you say smoothie, we say Syrah! Over in Barcelona, we’ve got our eyes on Brunch in the Park, which launches this Sunday. And in London? If you haven’t done a Hyde Park day to check out this year’s Pavilion and Christo’s London Mastaba yet, head over. Make sure you save some time for the cacio e pepe at Chucs Serpentine, and if you’re lucky enough to have bagged a place on Red Bull’s Music Odyssey, which seems a bit like a 2018 boat version of their epic eye activation, then let us know how it is. Or can we be your plus one?

Hackney Hotspots

Big ideas and grand designs

We know, there’s been a lot of Hackney talk (Giant Steps!) – and now there’s more. Adam Handling will move The Frog E1 to Hoxton in July, to his largest site yet. Inside, The Frog Hoxton will also incorporate a new Bean & Wheat (Adam’s sustainable coffee shop and deli) and brand new bar concept, Iron Stag. Down at Bohemia Place (and next door to Night Tales’ new spot), drop by St John at Hackney Brewery, who’ll be brewing beer on site, beneath the Hackney Central arches, as well as serving at the taproom bar alongside Greek Cypriot food from Éla. And don’t miss Hackney Arts Centre either, the new triple-level concert hall, theatre, restaurant and bar on the cards from the Village Underground crew. It’s all about big ambitions with these projects – expect grand scales and a multitude of appeals.

Emma Kroeger

We’ve had some brilliant nights at Dalston Superstore over the years, and after hearing about the opening of their new venture The Karaoke Hole, we asked co-founder Emma Kroeger about her favourite London spots.

What's your favourite Dalston haunt?
I love The Glory for weeknight queer cabaret, Brilliant Corners for their amazing Japanese food and eponymously brilliant DJ roster, and Sunday night jazz at The Haggerston.

Where do you go to celebrate?
Because I work as a DJ and club promoter, when I have time off to celebrate I usually choose to avoid nightlife altogether, and have a nice picnic in the sun at Hackney Downs or London Fields!

Favourite London restaurant?
If it’s a very special occasion I head to Sosharu for their amazing modern takes on classic Japanese dishes. Closer to home, I love Rawduck in Hackney, Rasa for ridiculously cheap South Indian food, and Mildreds is always super fresh and delicious.

Grimmy Presents

The DJ hosts brunch at Sexy Fish

In need of somewhere for brunch this Sunday? We say go all out and book in for Grimmy Presents at Berkeley Square’s Sexy Fish. Kicking off his month-long Sunday residency, Nick Grimshaw will be on the decks this week, and the next three weeks will be DJs he’s selected. It’ll be extravagant (expect dishes like ‘Bloody Mary’ ceviche and green tea waffles on the set menu), the floor to ceiling windows will be wide open, and the Champagne will be flowing. To book, just reserve a table for brunch (12-4pm) on Sunday.

Fazenda Nova

Understated Algarve

Rustic appeal

Looking to escape the Med crowds? Venture over to the Eastern Algarve instead. Amongst the salt flats, flamingos, lagoons and Medieval cities you’ll find the newly extended Fazenda Nova Country House, set within a converted 19th century farmhouse – we say it’s time for a Portugal decamp, rápido.

Gallery Hop

From the blockbuster to the blink-and-you’ll-miss-it show

There’s a lot of art to catch right now in London, so get those gallery hopping shoes ready. American photographer Dorothea Lange’s first UK retrospective Politics of Seeing is now open at the Barbican – it’s a timely look at the works of one of the founding figures of documentary photography. The one you might not hear about? Julie Becker’s I Must Create A Master Piece To Pay The Rent at the ICA. And the one you should put all judgement on hold for? Rob Pruitt’s American Quilts 2018 at Massimo de Carlo, running over Mayfair Art Weekend from Friday 29th June to Sunday 1st July.
