With fans including Lilly Allen and Peaches Geldof, expectations for Rubin’s A/W collection were high. Her signature brick print from last season was reintroduced in some of the first looks, but swiftly evolved into a love affair with the geometry of New York City.
Marching to a sweet soundtrack, girly models with swinging ponytails and pretty pink cheeks wore column shaped silhouettes borne out in satin cocktail dresses and jumpsuits, and sculpted jersey pieces taking inspiration abstractly from Art Deco prints and, more obviously, from the Chrsyler building.
Midnight blues, black satins, golds and greys played host to cubic white blocks with central squares in burnt orange, lilac and olive green, echoing the '80s disco-light shades of downtown NYC, while softer cream laces and sheer overlays, draped over tiered, ruffled skirts will give girly girls something to swoon over.
Take a bite out of the Big Apple – it sure is tasty.
