The Trend

Sure, there’s been a way to skip the queue forever, with speedy boarding in travel (and different seating classes) being one of the most obvious, but a few others on our current queue-dar include: at Disney World, get savvy with their app to (try to) figure out the multitude of get-in-faster options including the Lightning Lane (a reasonable-ish upgrade), the Lightning Lane Premier Pass (a not-so-reasonable upgrade) – or enquire about the VVIP route, where they walk you in through the back of each ride. At Erewhon, for big spenders there’s the Reserve membership, where, amongst other things, you can glide by mere mortals (who aren’t spending 15K a year on kale chips) to pay first. On the other end of things, there’s Rhode, who don’t let you skip the queue, but rather, turn the wait into part of the experience – for everyone.

We’ve done Chicago, Detroit, and every corner of Italy; now it’s on to Philly x LDN at Bar Etna for curry pizzas, and Sweden via Turkey and Iraq at Swede Stop for kebab pies. We’re hearing good things about both!

It’s that time of year again: Talamanca, and specifically Ocean Drive Talamanca, is calling. This season, they’ve revamped the menu in their incredibly scenic rooftop restaurant, Up&Down, which now has a tasting menu as well as à la carte options, with elevated Mediterranean dishes that have a Thai/Asian twist, and Ibiza favourites like red prawns with caviar and sea bream with miso. Book here; dinner reservations are open to guests and the public. And for rooms, try to select one with sea views if available – you can see Ibiza’s old town, Dalt Vila, in the background, too. Reserve here.

Around Town – Our Picks

New
The words “Meal Deal” definitely feel different when you add Mayfair before it (and have Claridge’s behind the concept), and you can be sure that the Claridge’s Bakery Mayfair Meal Deal – £15 for a signature sandwich, drink and sweet treat, with artisan breads, elevated fillings, and nostalgic cakes – will be different, too. A happy meal, indeed.

Relaunch
The MAINE Mayfair’s Palm Room has just reopened for lunch, and it looks light, bright, and intimate.

UJ Loves
We’ve ALWAYS thought there was room for a brand to do a fun boat experience close to London, and Fortnum & Mason obviously thought so too, as their new Thames experience includes a private two-hour trip on Christobel, a vintage boat, with a signature Fortnum picnic that can be upgraded to include Champagne, or sparkling rosé, all served by one of their ‘red coats’. This trip will run from 1-12 July, and it starts at Hobbs of Henley – the start of the Henley Regatta. Book here.

Events
Moro is celebrating their 30th anniversary with a Sunday alumni-focused lunch club this summer. The first date is 4 June, with Jacob Kenedy from Bocca di Lupo in the kitchen; bookings here.

Also on that date, Michelin-starred LUCA is hosting a four-course Italian lunch through the Kent countryside aboard Belmond’s British Pullman train, starting at London Victoria; book here.

KOL’s Santiago Lastra has created a special Mexican menu inspired by Frida Kahlo for the Tate, available from 25 June-31 August for lunch and dinner. It also includes gallery entry to Frida: The Making of an Icon; book here.

At the Double Standard (at The Standard Hotel), to kick off Pride month on the 9th of June is Drag Quiz Night: (Not) Your Standard Quiz Night, which is part quiz night, part fun performance; bookings here.

Weekend
A UJ fave, 45 Jermyn St., has new Saturday and Sunday menus.

International
LPM is going to Bangkok for a two-month residency at Anantara Siam, and Scott’s is headed to NYC and will be located in the new Annabel’s location in the Meatpacking District.

St. Clement, London
Nick Jones’ new hotel – a collaboration with Mark Wadhwa and Eagle & Hodges – is located at 180 The Thames, with 90 rooms and 15 suites. He was quoted in the FT as saying “if Claridge’s and the Chiltern Firehouse had a baby, it’d be St. Clement”, which sounds perfect. It’s on soft launch and you have to request to book.

The Shepherd Mayfair, London
Launching this summer in Shepherd Market, The Shepherd Mayfair, created to be a modern interpretation of a Mayfair mansion, will have 82 keys and several different partnerships.

Public West Hollywood, LA
Ian Schrager, footloose and fancy free from his EDITION contract, is now all in on PUBLIC; PUBLIC West Hollywood – the brand’s second property – opens mid July in a location that was previously a Standard.

The Revery, Crete
Opening imminently, there will be 24 safari-style eco hotel rooms open from June-October. The seafront rooms remind us a bit of the Cave rooms at Six Senses Ibiza (maybe minus the three person beds).

Zannier Île de Bendor, Provence
Off the coast of Bandol in Provence (and close to Marseille), this new private-island retreat has a large wellness centre, rooftop lounge, and sea views wherever you look.

Skate Celebration

We love this. Accompanying the Skate 50 exhibition at the Southbank Centre, which celebrates the relationship the Southbank has had with the skateboarding community, via its legendary skate space, is Push Play (19-21 June), which will show skate movies and have Q&As with key people, including Spike Jonze, on 21 June (which is also global skate day, hooray!).

Prada

This is interesting. Much-loved cocktail maestro, Remy Savage (A Bar With Shapes for a Name), has been hired by Prada as their executive mixologist, working across Prada, Miu Miu and the Fondazione. With recent activations like Miu Miu’s one-night-only Jazz Club in Tokyo, this makes sense.

BOUTIQUE

East Coast < West Coast

Noah, the epitome of east coast prep, has just opened its first store in LA, and it’s big! The brand has definitely been going through design changes in recent years – so we’re interested to see the LA translation. The store is looking good though – we like that they’ve brought a bit of their old school skate vibe with them.

Iconic director Baz Luhrmann is currently looking for partners to help fund a creative precinct for screen, tech and gaming, in an effort to put the city at the forefront of the screen industry. If Camden can do it!

We’re on St. Clement again… Café Clement, from Nick Jones and chef Danny Bohan, opens mid-June. An all-day café and bar with a menu that reflects Danny Bohan’s time as head chef at the River Café, it has bar seating, booths, and a south-facing terrace. This looks like exactly where you want to be this summer. Open from 7am-11pm, reservations open soon.
