…last week was full of ups and downs! Whilst football fever might officially be over, we’re still reeling from how good Childish Gambino and Skepta were at Lovebox over the weekend. But there’s still plenty to look forward to this week, with 50% off at XU’s new teahouse (from 12-3pm, 18th-29th July), the Reebok Classic House Party on Friday, and the beginning of Endo Kazutoshi’s residency at The Berkeley (just 8 covers per sitting, get booking!). Newsletter-wise, this week we’re bringing things back to zone 1, celebrating katsu sandos (summer’s snack-du-jour), and dreaming of Mykonos. Get reading!

The New Hangouts

The next Neds, Berners and Chilterns

There’s been a lot of talk of Tottenham and Hackney this year. But what about when we want to keep it central? This week’s trend brings it back to base camp, with the new hangouts for celebrating, impressing or when it’s just time to let loose in zone 1.

The katsu special arrives

There’s a surprise bid for London’s break-out snack this summer, and it’s pleasingly left field: the katsu sando has been popping up across our favourite menus and yes, it is time you ordered one. Night Tales have gone OG, serving katsu sandos from their in-house Japanese grill, Fat Baby. Bright’s have a Brit twist – think pork sandos teamed with shredded raw cabbage and a dollop of hot English mustard. Fittingly, Neptune’s come stuffed with crispy sardines in super fluffy white bread. You’ll find them in the snack section of the menu – eyes on the deep-fried prize!

Luke Scanlon

As the co-founder of the newly opened St John at Hackney Brewery, it’s fair to assume that Luke Scanlon has a few tips on what and where to drink this summer.

Can you recommend us somewhere we probably haven't been?
Del74 on Clapton Road. Great Mexican food, good value, good vibes.

Where do you go for an al fresco drink?
The rooftop bar at The Curtain is great.

What’s your all-time favourite London restaurant?
Smokestak for the beef brisket.

Berber & Q

Co-founder Mattia Bianchi picks his fave summer tracks

If you’ve been to Berber & Q, you’ll know that music is a big part of what they do: expect to hear some obscure techno as you muse over whether to order the cauliflower shawarma or the grilled sea bass. Co-founder Mattia Bianchi has put together a playlist packed with sunshine to transport you to the beach – no matter where you are.
