Masha Rener

Head chef at Lina Stores’ new pasta restaurant

Details

By now you’ve probably heard that Italian deli Lina Stores is opening its own pasta restaurant at 51 Greek Street (#UJLoves). Heading up the carb-filled kitchen is Masha Rener – we find out her favourite places in the city.

Where's your favourite Soho haunt?

Bar Italia is a great place to sit outside in the summer, have a glass of wine and watch life go by. Feels like a home away from home!

Where do you head for a caffeine fix?

I go to the Algerian Coffee Shop on Old Compton Street – here you can try speciality teas and coffee from all corners of the world. It’s like stepping back in time; it’s one of the undiscovered haunts of old Soho.

Where do you go in London for great pasta?

River Café for its simple cooking. In the spring they do an amazing tagliatelle with just three ingredients, nettle, butter and parmesan – it’s just perfect!

All time favourite London restaurant?

Barrafina – and I am very excited to try Nieves’ new restaurant Sabor.

Favourite place for a Sunday walk?

I enjoy wandering through Notting Hill and exploring Portobello Road Market – since the early 90s I’ve been going to Brigit Erath’s old spice stall; which is now a bricks and mortar store where over 2,500 spices are blended! I just love music and could spend hours sifting through the vinyls at Honest Jon’s Record store, followed, of course, by an early evening drink at the Electric Diner.
