… and Ibiza is in full swing. This summer we’re excited about all of the new hotels; first there were no five-stars and soon there will be lots! Choice is always good. We’re also more interested than ever in that authentic side of Ibiza. Llaut boats, under-the-stars grills, and hidden beaches, all of which you will find in this newsletter and in our guide. Booked a flight yet?
See you on the dancefloor.

5-stars coming in strong

This year, it’s all about the east coast. With two new large 5-stars going in – the recently launched BLESS Hotel Ibiza, and W Ibiza (opening later this summer), the east coast is on the ups. And with the new dual-carriageway going in (completion for 2020, they say ), it’s soon going to be a breeze to get there.

For your calendar

July 30 will see a pool-side sunset fashion show at Atzaró to celebrate their 15th anniversary. Expect a mixture of London and global talent (Rixo and Yasmine Eslami), with local talent (World Family Ibiza), and labels that fit into both categories (including A-list fave De La Vali, which is from Ibiza and sold in Selfridges). Open to the public, make a night of it, and book into their Orange Tree restaurant to dine outside. Closer to town, Casa Maca are doing films under the stars – book in advance, looks like they sell out – and if you’re looking to do your own event, Cotton Beach Club are doing private bespoke supper clubs (from eight guests) at their property in Ibiza town. Lastly, Rumors has moved from Destino to Las Dalias market; parties are still on Sundays from 7PM til late, see you there.

We want a bottle

We haven’t tried it yet and we still aren’t sure if it’s available to actually buy yet, but we’ve insta-seen it on all good IBZ/MYK tables recently. We’re guessing it’s pretty good. And coming to market soon!

Three we’ve got our eyes on

Casa Cook (part of Thomas Cook’s stylish line – which is actually stylish) is scheduled to open 23 July on the south coast, and we love the design – looks very Tulum, and seems like a refreshing direction for Ibiza hotels. Finca Can Marti, in the north, looks exactly like where we’d like to stay, and the new Petunia Ibiza seems to have a great roof, with views of Es Vedrà.

Yacht escapes

Want a day on a yacht skippered by those who know the island? Then look into Pursula Club, the new kid on the yachting block. Their site is currently being revamped – they will also be offering 3 day trips later this summer – but call/email to get details on all boats and trips currently available.

Where we’re eating this season

First up it’s Casa Maca again – these guys don’t sit still – for their farm-to-table candlelit dinners under the stars, with a Francis Mallmann-style grill, great cuisine and special atmosphere; they’ve been almost fully booked since 22 June, so reserve in advance (+34 971 806 864). Next it’s over to A Mi Manera, which has replaced Cicale. This is garden dining with an organic (of course) menu that leans towards Italian. In town, IT Ibiza seems to be a hit lately (DJs some nights), Mikasa – the boutique hotel from the El Chiringuito team – has a Levantine restaurant on the roof, and for a bit of fun… Bagatelle is now in Marina Botafoch.

Ibiza and Barcelona

We’ve been on the move! In Ibiza, we were over for the grand opening of Cala Nova’s beautiful new five-star hotel BLESS Hotel Ibiza. A weekend highlight was definitely having lunch with the 10 Michelin star Chef Martín Berasategui, who was great fun and has a signature restaurant in the hotel. We were then on to Barcelona for the Sant Joan festival and checked into OD Barcelona, followed by the brand new Sir Victor; both the OD and Sir Victor have Ibiza counterparts (OD Talamanca and Sir Joan). Stay tuned for reviews coming soon.

Hotels on our radar

We never know where to stay in Formentera! We’ve stayed in Es Mares and loved it, but in high season, it’s a pricey choice. Talaya beach apartments come highly recommended, and are on the famous Playa Migjorn – and these look like a good, rustic get-away-from-it-all option. Then there’s Can 7, which they say is ‘dedicated to preserving and giving back to Formentera’. They seem to have rooms, experiences and a restaurant, which can be accessed via a membership, which you then top up online to spend there. 10% of contributions go toward the Posidonia Project and protecting the island. We are still not 100% sure how this all works (and so far have had no response to questions), but keep it on the radar! We’ve seen island insiders a plenty heading here.

Llauts

We’re coming for you

We’ve been wanting to try a llaut – a traditional Spanish boat – and are feeling this is the summer! Selling points are: you don’t need a license, they look easy to operate, and they look great too. We’re just hoping you can’t drift off to NYC, but rather just pleasantly float around close to shore. Llauts, we already love you!

Where to go, what to do

So, Nic Fanciulli’s Dance or Die party at Ushuaïa seems to be the newbie gaining momentum this summer. Other than that, Savage Disco will be joining Paradise on a couple of dates (tonight, 10 July and 28 August), taking over the airstream. For our UJ party calendar, click here.

Experimental Menorca

They’re here!

Another rapidly expanding group, Experimental Menorca should be open by August. With 34 rooms in the main agroturismo-style finca and another nine villas, this is just what we need to finally get that Menorca trip booked in. Keep an eye out for special opening rates.
