After a whirlwind week on the White Isle for openings, we can report that even in the rain, IBZ is so special! Year on year things change, but there’s something about touching down that never gets old. So without any further adieu, we hope you enjoy our first UJ Ibiza newsletter for 2024. It’s good to be back!

| | | | International Music Summit | | It was IMS’s 15th anniversary this year – Happy Birthday IMS – and highlights included news that Privilege (ex-KU), the world’s largest nightclub and previously home to iconic nights like Manumission and Elrow, will be re-opening in 2025 – we’re interested to see what they’ll do with it. Other highlights included the approach to some of the wellbeing chats (both DJs Chloé Caillet and Mochakk led talks); the music focus – with this year being Amapiano and Afro/Brazilian House, the fastest growing genre; talks with some of the island’s biggest names (Pete Tong in conversation with Palladium Hotel Group CEO Abel Matutes Prats, discussing Ibiza rivalries and how young people are being priced out of the island, amongst other things); and of course the Hyde/Mondrian location. With two waterfront hotels able to service the summit, it made life easier for everyone! It might not have been a completely sunny one (April), but it’s always a great time to get inspired and catch up with friends.

| | | | | Hyde and Mondrian | Cala Llonga | Sponsored Listing | | For this summer ‘24 launch UJ Ibiza issue, we’ve partnered with our friends at Mondrian and Hyde, two of Ibiza’s newest hotels and recent hosts of the esteemed International Music Summit, the event that really kicks off the Ibiza season. If you aren’t familiar with Hyde and Mondrian, they quietly opened at the end of last season, occupying the picturesque cove of Cala Llonga. Just 15 minutes from Ibiza town and approx. 25 from the airport, their location really is as good as it gets. You’re central, but in a peaceful area that still feels local; they have a dock that services ferries to Formentera, Santa Eulalia and Ibiza town; and they’re surrounded by green hills, which are perfect for rambling. Two hotels with different DNAs (more on that below), sharing a serviced pool, gym, and seven culinary options, with Dis-loyalty opening rates on from now until 30 June. Bienvenidos Hyde and Mondrian!

| | | | | New New New | | New hotels in Formentera – at last! – really feels like the story of the season. Estel Formentera recently opened on Migjorn beach, and from what we can see, it looks perfect; finca-style whitewashed rooms with linen bedding in natural shades, with art and straw accents around. Also opening this year, Dunas de Formentera is an eco-luxe resort, with a slight nautical theme in décor running throughout. With 45 rooms (villas, suites, and studios), this seems like a great option to come with family or friends, or alone! More info coming soon….

| | | | | Music, Hikes, and Connections | Book now | Sponsored Listing | | Rooted in the LA club scene, Hyde is a music focused hotel and this is the brand’s first property in Europe. Known for facilitating authentic connections between guests, this 401 room hotel – with bohemian beach bars and wrap around sofas – was made for mingling. Highlights here include two-bedroom suites with terraces, a pool with performances from local talent, hikes led by Balearic Outdoor Adventures, and their line-up of curated events.

| | | | | Café Mambo Turns 30 | | Javier Anadon, Mambo King, founder of Café Mambo and a true pioneer on the White Isle, is one of our favourite people in Ibiza. So it’s with great gusto that we say happy birthday Café Mambo, and congrats Javi! They say it’s their 30th, but it definitely feels like it’s been around forever. What began as a small beachside sunset spot has grown into one of the most legendary spots around, with global DJs still starting their nights with pre-party sets here today, to get the festivities going. Felicidades!

| | | | | Talamanca Shuffle | | Three new restaurants on our radar, in and around Talamanca, include Clap (don’t…), which will be a huge new resort-style restaurant offering in Talamanca. The menu will be Japanese Mediterranean (like their other restaurants), they’ll have a rooftop terrace, and a 50m pool with cabanas and floating beds. Close by, Mr Porter Steakhouse, Bar & Lounge from Amsterdam’s The Entourage Group, will be popping up at Sir Joan hotel, close to Marina Botofoch; and lastly, Bes Talamanca has taken over a house that’s been vacant on the Talamanca boardwalk for ages and the menu (everything from sushi to vongole) looks good.

|
| | | | | Sonrojo | Beachside Chiringuito | Tunes and Med flavours | Sponsored Listing | | New this season, Sonrojo is a chic, beachside chiringuito-style restaurant with sangria and paella, grilled fish and Balearic beats; a perfect spot for whiling away the day. Fresh and breezy, come here early and go from dip to sip, and back again. Other restaurant highlights at Hyde include Cuyo, which serves Mexican fare, and a sushi and sashimi menu at their poolside bar (which also services the sun loungers), Bungalow.

| | | | | Petunia and Omakase by Walt | | The awards are out and Petunia hotel, now with new owners, has just received a Michelin Key, which is the Michelin Guide’s new awards for hotels. On the restaurant front, Omakase by Walt now has a Michelin star (and we hear it’s amazing). If you have any hope of getting a seat at his 8-seater sushi bar, start trying now (they’re very good on WhatsApp too, alerting you to openings).

|
| | | | | Pachacha | | Opening under the radar last summer, Pachacha is a new finca-style club by Pacha, in Formentera, and it looks great. Set in Es Pujols, it’s small, authentic, and looks fun, with programming every night of the week. It’s great to chill in Formentera, but one night out wouldn’t hurt, so this is a very welcome addition to the island.

|
| | | | | Cosmopolitan, Design-led, Curated | Book now | Sponsored Listing | | The yin to Hyde’s yang, Mondrian is all grown up. Set beside Hyde, Mondrian’s focus is on art and culture, and its design-led lobby and Sun & Moon bar are stunning. A cosmopolitan beach/seaside option – which truly feels like a unique offering in Ibiza – it might have 154 rooms, but it manages to still feel intimate. Highlights here include their seafront XXL windows that really invite the crystal blue-green waters and pine-clad hills in, their curated program of events that connect island creators with Mondrian’s industry leading guests, and their Panoramic Seaview Suites.

| | | | | World Entourage | | We’re always asked for the number for a driver in Ibiza, and our go-to is World Entourage. They’ve helped us with rides, events, and even specific requests (including an annoying one where we had them pick up our bags from a hotel storage, collect us from lunch, then drive us to the airport in time for a flight, oooof) – always with a smile, great tunes, and good vibes.

| | | | | Madunia | Dining | | Two places we want to try this summer include Madunia (a.k.a. mother earth), perched in the hills on the west coast, which will be a great spot to catch the beautiful sunsets on that side of the island. Helmed by a chef who’s worked at Michelin star restaurants in the Netherlands, here he’ll combine his Latin roots with Spanish-style dining, and utilise open-fire cooking. Reservations are open from 8 June; sample menu here. Also on our wishlist is an invite to the Argentenian chef Sebastian Mazzola’s private dining space in Dalt Vila (he’s ex-Pakta, remember that Nikkei restaurant in BCN? It was part of the whole Ferran and Albert Adrià dining area in Barcelona’s Raval district, and he’s also been doing pop-up dining events globally for the past decade), which he runs with his saké sommelier girlfriend. Listen to his interview, part of The Xarraca Journal Issue 4, which launches today at Six Senses Ibiza.

| | | | | Niko | Understated Japanese | Views with a side of sushi | Sponsored Listing | | Also new this season, Niko has incredible views of Cala Llonga’s cove and offers a Japanese-Med menu. Designed by Cuarto Interior, there’s a sushi bar as well as table dining. There’s also a coffee bar Perq in the Mondrian lobby, and the Sun & Moon bar, with its exceptional cocktails (by London’s Three Sheets team), is an atmospheric place to start the night.

| | | | | Agroturismo Row | | We always like finding something new on the island, and on a dusty dirt road, 2KM from Ibiza town, lies three agroturismos, which are close to town by location but feel a million miles away, as you’re deep in the countryside. First up is Xereca, which has rooms with exposed beams, an outdoor gym with treatments, and is centred around a giant windmill (that has a shower inside). They also have flats to rent in Dalt Vila (some with a 30-day min.), which is interesting. Next up is Can Arabí, which is set in an orange tree plantation and has a restaurant that’s shared by the last agroturismo on the row, Can Jaume, which is owned by our friends at the OD Hotel Group. A highlight of Can Jaume is their suites, which are very private and have rooftop jacuzzis, which feels new for Ibiza (but standard for Tulum). Their laidback atmosphere and farmside breakfasts are strengths, too.

|
| | | | | Teatro Pereira | | This 125-year-old building is gorgeous and has always been an anchor of Ibiza town, so good news that it’s open again. Opening 19 May, the first show here is Ibiza Hippie Heaven, created by Nacho Cano.

|
| | | | | Nômade Holbox | Word on the Street | | We’ve been hearing this for awhile now, but it sounds like a Nômade hotel will open next to Six Senses (likely next year). Also on the rumourville front, we’ve heard that there’s a large member’s fitness club on the horizon, which feels very relevant, and will definitely fill a void.
|
|
| | | | | Ibiza Lounge | | The Ibiza Cap des Falcó lounge is closed! Well, for now. It’s under renovation to increase the size and offering, which is good news; we don’t have a re-opening date, but if you see it open, please let us know.

|
| | | | | UJ Ibiza Trip | | We’ve been thinking. If we organised a UJ Ibiza curated weekend, with a foodie focus, and likely some wellbeing and fun on the side, at one of our favourite hotels, would you be interested? It would probably be in September or October. If yes, please send us an email just saying I’m interested! Thank you.

| | | | | Akasha | | If you haven’t been here yet, do check out this micro club this summer. Set in the Las Dalias market, they have an outdoor garden, sexy mini club, and we’re hearing from big DJ names that the soundsystem is incredible, with some even saying it’s their favourite place to play at. We also recently looked at it for a takeover for a client, and it seems to be a great place to have an event, should you be looking. Need help planning an event in Ibiza? Let us know.

| | | | | @louisnesbitt | | Best news that Michael Bibi has been given the all clear and will be back with his night Solid Grooves Casino Motel at DC10, from 6 June. BIBI! ❤️ This is a pic from his surprise appearance at the closing of his night last summer. GOOD VIBES ONLY!
