Trogolo

Cosy Italian with great pedigree

Details

More info

Founded by Lara Boglione, daughter of the Petersham Nurseries duo, and Giovanni Mazzei, her winemaker husband (of the vineyard Marchesi Mazzei), Trogolo was always going to be a well-considered spot. Add the fact that they have a stellar sommelier and professional staff that know the ins and outs of Italian cooking, and this small trattoria is definitely carving a lane of its own.

The Décor/Vibe

Come in for a snack, stay for a few hours is the vibe here. It’s cosy, it’s rustic (wooden stools and tables), and it’s the kind of place where you can easily end up talking to your neighbours, as the room feels more like one long table.

The Food and Drink

Traditional Tuscan is what they are going for here, and it delivers. Menus include regional specialities like homemade spaghetti with rooster ragu, as well as simple but perfectly executed dishes like artichoke frittata and radicchio, goat cheese and walnut salad.

Highlights

Here they do cheese to start, which we loved; the wine list also has a good number of mostly Tuscan wines by the glass.
