Ah, Grupo Mambo: another great venue with their signature creative; a well-thought out concept behind it. This time, it’s the Moroccan-inspired chiringuito on the sunset-ready cove, Cala Gració. Launched quietly last season, when they took over from the previous owners, this year they returned with a bang, with a new look, and an updated menu by Angel Zapata Martin, ex-Barrafina.
The Décor
With a desert paint palette accented with modern rose tiles, Beverly Hills Hotel greens and bold palms, this place feels great. Cylindrical in shape, the circular format works well with the views; almost everyone looks out. Tables spill out onto the beach, for a true feet-in-the-sand dining experience.
The Food and Drink
Here, it’s a mix of Middle Eastern, Med, Moroccan, and beach fare with a twist. There’s lobster with orzo and saffron aioli; fattoush salad and mezze; oysters with cava cream and cucumber sunomono; smashburgers; and octopus in bouillabaisse. And as this is Grupo Mambo, the drinks, of course, are good, with natural wines on offer, too.
Highlights
The location. On the beach right next to their other renowned spot at Cala Gracioneta, the bay is beautiful at night, feels local, and they have serviced beds that are reasonable, so you can spend the day here. We love the design touches: the smiley tile tables; the wooden painted sign; how they transformed the layout of the chiringuito and really opened it up. They’re also getting a great crowd: where Mambos go, the DJ crowd follows, so there’s an excellent vibe here every day, and they’re just getting going on beautiful twilight nights, too.
