Anna Hansen

Chef-founder at The Modern Pantry

In Conversation

After training under Fergus Henderson and heading things up at The Providores, Anna Hansen is now celebrating 10 years of her restaurant The Modern Pantry – so we think it’s about time we got to know her a little better.

What’s your favourite London restaurant?
Jikoni by Ravinder Bhogal – it’s eclectic, delicious, adventurous and totally flavourful. What more do you want?!

Can you recommend us a hidden gem we might not know about?
Okay so this is a random (but totally great) one – Tea House Theatre in Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens. Go and settle in for the day, they won’t rush you or ask you to leave.

What’s your local?
Brooks and Gao in Streatham. It’s all very cleverly thought out. The breakfast and coffee are great, but when they’re open in the evenings, go for cocktails and north African-inspired dishes.

Which female chef should we have our eye on?
Ixta Belfrage – Ottolenghi’s development chef.

What’s your drink of choice for autumn?
Keep it simple with Vault vermouth on ice. It’s a wonderful thing.
