Mei Hui

Ethical fashion designer and founder of The Silk Series

In Conversation

The east London-based fashion designer and founder of Old Spitalfields Market’s Silk Series (part of Nuno Mendes’ Ten Ten initiative) speaks up about her favourite spots.

What’s your favourite restaurant in London?
My two favourite restaurants are both in east London. I love the Towpath Café in De Beauvoir Town on the canal – it’s great when the weather is warmer. If I’m going to a pub, it has to be The Marksman on Hackney Road.

Where do you go to celebrate?
That depends on where I am in London. If I’m west it’s The River Café. If I’m over in east London I’d celebrate back in my favourite place, The Marksman!

What’s your local?
In Dalston I like Brilliant Corners, which does amazing Japanese food. Oh and The Ruby does the most perfect cocktails.

Where do you go for a retail fix?
I love vintage shops like Hunky Dory Vintage or Beyond Retro. On a Thursday I’ll always hit up Old Spitalfields Market, there is always so much to choose from, and you can find things there you won’t anywhere else.

What’s your favourite dancing spot?
The Golden Heart on Commercial Street has great music and it’s a great place to dance if you feel like it! But generally I’m someone who likes to party with friends and family at home.
