Plaza de España, 5, 28008 Madrid, Spain
Spa with indoor pool, rooftop pool and terrace, rooms with terraces, Nespresso, Bluetooth speaker, 24-hour gym, L’Occitane products, Botania restaurant (ground floor) and Ginkgo Sky Bar (12th Floor).
If you want something easy, slick, central and relatively reasonable, this family-run chain (this is the fifth hotel in the group) is a good one.
Madrid is a relatively easy city to navigate – you seem to be able to walk almost anywhere – but it doesn’t get much more central than this. The 12th floor terrace/pool is a definite highlight; it’s wraparound 360 views are amazing. And the spa, with an indoor pool that overlooks the street, has a refreshing urban look. Ask for a room with a terrace and make sure to skip the queue if you are trying to go up to the Ginkgo Sky Bar (if you are staying here), as this is quite a local attraction. Ask in advance what’s on at the Sky Bar too – it ranges from live music to different DJ nights. And if you want to do something unique, ask about their luxury car rentals, so you can whizz around or out of town.
