Poster Girl

There is a moment in Planet of the Apes when Charlton Heston (or Marky Mark, depending on your age) stumbles upon the head of the Statue of Liberty. Suddenly, everything becomes clear. She was the symbol of the US of A and thus, by reductive Hollywood logic, the world. So they're on Earth. Damn.

But what if they'd ended up in London? Without the American propensity for scale and ostentatious design, they'd have been screwed. But thankfully, Naomi 'The Ego' Campbell, has come to the rescue, selflessly donating her body for two entirely unique 30 feet statues. NYC gets Liberty and London gets the Statue of Narcissism? Marvellous.

We were hoping that Nick Knight, the creator of this monumental amusement, was pulling either our leg or hers. Sadly, it seems neither. Whatever happened to models being content with two dimensions? I mean, it's not like they've got any depth anyway. Prints were good enough to get Go-Go Gagosian off and running.

So long as it's flat and paintable, Banksy's happy. And cast an eye (or indeed wallet) over the Bloomsbury Auction House's vintage posters and you'll see just how great the form can actually be.

I wonder if the Giant Naomi will be throwing a Giant Telephone...
