December and January’s Best New Openings

Our highlights from the past few months

  • EartH Kitchen

Led by former St John executive chef Chris Gillard and Village Underground founder Auro Foxcroft, EartH Kitchen’s 120-cover neighbourhood restaurant will be an all day affair with another St John alum, Toni Castillo, managing front of house. On the menus, it’s all about provenance and seasonality for Chris and Toni, who will be championing quality produce and local suppliers.

  • Filth

Gizzi Erskine and Rosemary Ferguson’s FILTH burger is back for a three-month-long residency in Shoreditch within the current Dirty Burger site. After trying their signature and Seoul burgers at their Tate pop-up a while back, we were already sold, and we’re looking forward to trying the new spot… Tasty, plant-based junk food that’s secretly good for you? We’re down.

  • Moio

After working with Merlin Labron-Johnson at Portland, head chef João Ferreira Pinto and sommelier Carolina W Seibel are branching out into European small plates in Stoke Newington. The intimate space will be serving up dishes like Portuguese morcela with smoked plum, poached hake with chervil root, and seafood barley with bisque foam. A welcome addition to the area.

  • Andrew Meredith

    Spiritland Royal Festival Hall

King’s Cross-based listening bar Spiritland is going BIG with its new opening, an Antipodean-inspired restaurant in Royal Festival Hall. Of course, sound is a big focus here: Living Voice’s rare vintage Air Partner speakers have been repurposed for the space, and Spiritland’s much-loved events will be taking place here too, including a programme of talks where special guests recount their life through music.

  • Spuntino Heathrow

We love Spuntino Soho for an indulgence, American-style brunch, and we’re looking forward to trying out their new Heathrow space the next time we fly. Truffled egg toast and a New York sour pre-flight? Yes please!
