New to Notting Hill, Los Mochis, located by Notting Hill Gate, is a Mexican-Japanese restaurant. With 22 tacos and innovative items on the menu like superfood guacamole (with pumpkin, sunflower, chia seeds, and pomegranate), bang bang king crab tacos, and SoCal options like shrimp and carnitas in addition to sushi, sashimi, tiraditos, and rolls, this looks like one great menu.
Bar des Prés
Bar de Prés is a long-term Parisian fave, and now, it’s taking over the (great) space that was Indian Accent in Mayfair. Chef Cyril Lignac is known for his French-Asian menu, which offers classic Japanese dishes like sashimi and maki, in addition to things like a crab and avocado galette with Madras curry, which offers more of a fusion. Don’t leave without trying the vanilla mashed potatoes, salmon with crispy rice, and rice pudding.
Okay, so we’ve coined this one ourselves, Taiwanese-Americana. Founded by Samuel Haim with a menu that was developed by the TĀ TĀ Eatery duo, Mr Ji follows in the footsteps of places like Kurobuta and Shackfuyu, offering Asian dishes with a kind of Americana junk food twist. Here, the focus is on chicken, with dishes like Gizzards (a chicken gizzard salad with Doritos and smoked cream cheese) and Prawn “in” Toast (brioche filled with bechamel, sweet corn and prawns). We’re hearing good things.
If you know Angelina in Dalston, you’ll be familiar with their Japanese-Italian dishes. At Golden Gai, their newish Soho spot, they’re focusing on piadine (Italian flatbreads) with Japanese fillings, plus innovative cocktails and a mostly Italian wine list.
Jiji - COMING SOON
All we know so far is that this is a new Israeli-Japanese restaurant in Islington, with a menu that was created by the executive head chef of Sumosan. It was inspired by frequent trips to Tel Aviv and a love for the innovative, clean flavours of both Israel and Japan. We’re excited for this one: feels fresh!
