Bad Egg earned it’s reputation as the place to indulge all of your guilty brunch pleasures, and as of this April, it’s back. Their bottomless brunches are legendary: prosecco, bloody marys and mimosas on tap, old skool hip-hop and a modern American menu comprising of N’duja croque monsieur, cheeseburger hash and peanut butter jelly baps. It’s the eggs we’re after though: choose from huevos rancheros (scrambled eggs, guac, chorizo, and cheese fondue) or chilaquiles (crispy tacos, green salsa, slow cooked peppers, goats curd and fried eggs).

A favourite with Hackney locals and the East-end sister of Soho’s Duck Soup, Raw Duck is the place to go if you want your eggs with a twist. Their brunch menu features poached eggs and tarka dahl, fried eggs with curried potatoes and salt beef, and UJ’s fave – sunny fried eggs with coconut rice, chilli sambal and cucumber. You won’t find any benedict here.

If you’re looking for something more traditional, then the Wolseley is the place to go. If it’s a late hangover brunch you’re after, forget it – The Wolseley serves breakfast only, and it finishes at 11.30am sharp. Stick to the classics here: boiled eggs and soldiers, eggs benedict and eggs royal. This is old school English decadence at it’s finest – just make sure you book ahead.

We used to go to Chiltern Firehouse for the celebrity spotting, but now we go for the eggs. If you’re feeling flush, settle down with a pot of coffee and their spiced cornish crab and lobster omlette. There’s pretty much no way you can go on to have a bad day if you start off here.

Dishoom used to be our go-to for Indian inspired breakfast plates, but these days the queues are a little bit much for UJ. So we’re opting for Talli Joe’s Indian-inspired egg menu, available from 16th-30th April. The menu covers all corners of India, from Bombay to Kolkata: think egg masala and roti, spicy venison keema with egg yolk and kerala style egg curry.
