More info

It’s great when you see an update that actually feels like somewhere new, and that’s what you see at Cometa. Cometa is the new seafood-forward Mexican restaurant at Carousel.

The Décor/Vibe

The use of space is one of the main differences now. A wood partition in the middle of the room has completely changed the vibe here – it now feels like a cosy, intimate space and has shaken off its previous canteen-esque feel. The lighting is also low at night, and their staff seem well-versed and like they want to be there. Cometa follows over a decade of guest chef collaborations in this space; you’ve got to hand it to Carousel – they certainly don’t sit around.

The Menu

Contemporary Mexican seafood. We were expecting ceviche and fish with mole. What we got was so much more. An absolute flavour explosion in every dish, where even the classics felt new; a highlight for us was a Caesar salad made with radicchio (amongst other lettuces) and piled high. The small plates were, overall, a highlight – greens that were grilled, with crispy lentils and chipotle, and tempura’d with jalapeño and guacasalsa; both were outstanding. There was also scallop tiradito with guacachile; prawn with burnt mandarin and ginger ceviche; and sea bream with sesame aguachile.

For drinks, they have innovative margaritas, and a more interesting than usual low and no section, and don’t leave without one of their chic-and-perfectly-sized chocolate guajillo hazelnut crispy/creamy dessert; with two spoons, of course.

They say they draw on techniques from Contramar (CDMX) and The Four Horsemen (Brooklyn), two of our global faves, so it’s no surprise that we loved it here.

Highlights

The overall experience. We would come back here just to see the changing menu and what they dream up next!
