Top 5: Alternative Brunches

Bored of benedict? We’ve got just the thing

  • COYA

    Saturdays, 12.30-4pm

COYA Mayfair’s Saturday party brunch is back! Think bottomless drinks and Peruvian canapes, and then brunch with unlimited ceviche, tiradito, bao buns, arroz Nikkei and pollo a la perilla with DJs and dancing all afternoon.

  • Freak Scene

    Sundays from 12-5pm

After trying the inventive plates coming from Scott Hallsworth’s kitchen, we aren’t surprised that he’s taking a less traditional approach to brunch. Every Sunday from noon, take a seat at the bar and watch the chefs at work, serving up a tongue-in-cheek twist on traditional bento boxes packed with signature Freak Scene plates. Choose from B1 – containing a takoyaki octopus doughnut, tea smoked lamb chops, and Thai pork sausage buns, or B2 with Singapore-style fried chicken, black pepper short rib donburi, and black cod tacos.

  • Hoppers

    Sundays from 12pm

Get down to Hoppers St. Christopher’s Place on a Sunday for brunch, Sri Lankan style. Start off with bacon and mushroom kith, and then it’s on to classic egg hoppers and chilli cheese dosas, washed down with a smoked gorakha bloody mary. We say get the gang together and book out one of the rattan-screened vaults for some weekend fun.

  • Kym’s

    Sundays from 12-6pm

If you’ve read our Kym’s review, you’ll know we’re fans of Andrew Wong’s second venture. Chinese roasted meats take centre stage here, and their Sunday brunch is no exception. Choose either slow poached soy chicken, Cantonese crispy pork belly or Iberico pork char siu, with lemongrass salad, silken tofu and steamed buns for the table, and pineapple buns or ice cream to finish.

  • Neptune

    Saturday and Sunday 12-3pm

If you want brunch with a bit of old school opulence, try Neptune. As you’d expect, there’s a seafood focus here – we’ve got our eye on kedgeree and crab omelette with shellfish butter, served up with one of their signature Paloma cocktails; mezcal, lime, agave and pink grapefruit juice.
