Weekend Guide

Friday 13th alert! All hands on deck for tomorrow! Tape down those loose floorboards! Stay off the roads! Avoid all mirrors, ladders, hammers and electricity sockets!

Did you know that, thanks to all you over-anxious paraskevidekatriaphobics, Friday the 13th is now safer than any other Friday in the year? Well, sort of. If you squint at the facts a little.

So screw it. Live life on the edge. From dummies and rubber pants to femme-flicks and drum licks, what's not to love this weekend.

FRIDAY

nightlifeBEV Closing Party
You'd be forgiven for thinking that the Birds Eye View Film Festival might be centred entirely and without distraction on, well, you know, women and film. You'd be forgiven indeed. But you'd also be wrong. Clearly, it's also all about femme-tastic award-giving and cocktail-drinking, about performance from Plaster of Paris, delicious debauchery from everyone's favourite Girlcore, and DJing from Goldierocks. And yes, there's something in there about women and film too. Somewhere.

8pm-1am
Place:
ICA, The Mall, SW1Y 5AH
Cost:
£8 adv.

otherTorture Garden March Ball
There used to be a time when a love of rubber was a dirty thing; an obsession with cling film something to keep behind closed floral curtains; a fetish for bars and whips saved for the basement. Now, of course, we have Torture Garden to save our deviant souls - where all those creatures that go bump in the dark, are able to drink, dance, and generally socialize, gimps proudly in tow.

10pm-6am

Mass, St. Matthew's Church, Brixton Hill, SW2 1JF
Cost:
£29, £25 adv.

EAT & DRINK

Fino
Darlings of the London restaurant scene Sam and Eddie Hart never seem to put a foot wrong, so there were many murmurs of sympathy when Fino, their original posh tapas-teria, was closed due to floods a few months ago.

However, in typically resourceful style, the brothers took the opportunity to give their first-born a fresh lick of paint and liven up the menu, and tomorrow the place reopens for business.

The good thing about tapas, of course, is that it's recession friendly - have as little or as much as your wallet allows - and the menu changes daily here, according to what's fresh in, so start with favourites pan con tomate and piquillo croquetas and chase with marmitako (fish stew made with tuna and potatoes) or Pyrenean milk-fed lamb - or both, if you're feeling reckless - and other bits.

Many regulars eat at the counter from which you can gaze into the heat of the kitchen but if you prefer, have a civilised glass of sherry and a handful of salty almonds in the bar before you're led to your table for more tasty Spanish morsels.

It's good to know a little piece of Barcelona is back in NoHo.
