Taking a break from the slew of heady festivals rocking our fair city of late, we felt this weekend should really be about distraction. Sure, there's all the usual delicious carnage out there, but do you never just crave something a little, you know, different?

And in a weekend that sees everything from the (eventual) death of the Double Club to a dash of Fame (who wants to live forever), a wee sashay with the beautiful people up at Bistrotheque to a more upmarket festival of rolling hills and flowing champagne out of town, there really is distraction aplenty. You just need to know where to find it. Which is where we aim to please.

Remember taping bits of thread to your knee and lovingly creating those woven friendship bracelets for your nearest and dearest? Even the boys can get away with it - well, Henry Holland is wearing one…

                                 Cornbury Festival
Cornbury isall about the rolling hills in a beautiful Cotswold location, farmer's market food, hot air balloons, and the madness of many morris dancers, stitched together by live music including The Pretenders, The Lightning Seeds, and The Magic Numbers. Forget knee-deep mud, lost tents and reeking portashowers - this is all about the private VIP marquee laden with champers, fenced-off gardens, and a 'smart loo'. (Well, it is still a festival, innit.)

                                  David Hockney
Thought the closest thing to creating art on your computer was an ill-conceived Paint drawing? Think again. Saturday is the last day of Hockney's 'Drawing in a Printing Machine' exhibition, which sees the artists' ongoing interest in technology in art use Photoshop and Graphics Tablet to create vibrant and fluid landscapes and portraits.

                                 PLAYLIST OF THE WEEK

                                  Playlist July 8: Random Picks
This week's playlist is as messed up as the weather; chopping and changing from blazing sunshine to torrential rain, the elements of these tracks are just as unlikely and just as heavy. Devendra and Oasis? We know, it's weird but one thing's for sure; while the strange weather might make you want to stay put, this week's beats will make you want to move.
