Nicholas Balfe’s neighbourhood restaurant has been on our radar since it first opened in 2012, but after a recent refurb, Salon is firmly on our favourites list. It embodies what contemporary dining should be – a menu of seasonal, inventive small plates, each considered and well-cooked, with a wine list robust enough that you want to opt for a pairing. New banquette seating means there’s more space, but it still hasn’t lost the intimate, cosy feel that made Salon stand out in the first place. Plus, the downstairs bar is branching out into Salon’s very own wine shop – and you can take your chosen bottle into the bar downstairs to drink for a small corkage.
