Set in a 19th-century townhouse in Bruton Place, Babel House draws culinary inspiration from the six countries surrounding the Black Sea. Named after Odessan writer Isaac Babel, the townhouse itself has been designed to reflect the interplay between east and west that the port towns dotted around the Black Sea coastline are all accustomed to. Unsurprisingly, seafood, grilled and smoked fish are the major players on the menu, which runs from the traditional Eastern European classics such as herring pate with kefir bread, red borsch and stuffed dumplings, to less familiar dishes – we say veer off-piste and try the chicken tabaka, green borsch and courgette caviar.
