Stripped back brick walls, minimal dark wood seating and bar dining spots – Neo Bistro seems as if it might be more at home in Shoreditch than in the heart of Mayfair – but this place is re-defining stuffy bistro dining.

Flavours

As the name suggests, Neo Bistro is a modern take on classic European bistro dining. The menu changes regularly, but you’ll usually find bistro staples, wonderfully elevated into the best versions of themselves. The charcuterie comes in the form of thick slices of tamworth pork and venison sausage, Anjou pigeon gets a kick from spiced lentils and gooseberries, and wild sea trout is pepped up with a bit of elderflower. We recommend opting for the tasting menu; six courses might seem like a lot but the portion sizes are balanced so it feels just right.

Highlight

The presentation. The dishes here are genuinely beautiful, and impressive without being overly fussy.

Top tip

Finish off your meal with a glass of the cider. We’d usually always go with wine (and the Austrian Gremischter Satz here is a strong contender) but it’s a risk that pays off.
