MARKET TO MARKET

Street food markets – they’ve come a long way. No longer just hokey takeovers – street food has evolved into big business. World-class bars, trendy restaurants, exclusive DJs: you name it, they’ve got them, and all under one roof. This summer, Street Feast is bigger and better with three different locations, while Night Tales is gearing up for their first summer session. Game on.

First up is Street Feast. Having just packed up Hawker House in Haggerston, they’ve moved south of the river as Model Market. Expect the usual stellar line-up of street food, bars (including the Rotary Bar serving festival-sized cocktails) and a purely vinyl soundtrack. You’ll find us up on the Lewisham High Line a.k.a the rooftop bar, tequila slushie in hand.

As for the east? Come May, Street Feast will be back in their spiritual home, Dalston Yard, with 20 street food vendors and eight bars. But we’re most excited for the unveiling of Dinerama in Shoreditch Yard in June. The 1,000 person capacity space will be the second largest licenced venue in Hackney. What we know: it will be open five days a week, have six permanent diners, eight food shacks and, of course, an array of concept bars.

Lastly, giving Street Feast a healthy dose of competition is Night Tales’ summer residency Summer Tales – and they’ve gone jungle themed. Taking over their usual Red Market space at Old Street, expect rope swing chairs, hammocks and jungle cabins. Oh, and possibly an adventure trail? Food wise, there’ll be eight vendors, including Burger & Lobster and LA-inspired health café, Bel Air. Plus, there’s the Lazy Flamingo Bar (for freshly mixed cocktails), the Frozen Punch Bar (for punch), and, interestingly, Coco Shack (for spiked nuts with coconut water). And just like Night Tales, expect 15 weeks of unannounced line-ups packed with special guests. All we can say is: eyes on their Twitter feed.
