Project 10: Paul Smith

Hold your horses there son! What's that you say? Another Bank Holiday? But didn't you jus- Oh, wait, I get it. "The summer's en route so let's get slacking"? I'm with ya. Handy there are all these festivals and events on, thick with art, lit, music and mayhem to keep us all busy then, I reckons.

This weekend's guide is brought to you together with Paul Smith and his Project 10: Bag at the Design Museum. So if you're still looking for something to do this weekend (as though there weren't enough already) then check out the installation of 138 limited edition flight bags. A reaction to the cult of mass production and it looks pretty too? What more can you ask for?

TONIGHT
Stag and Dagger
This one time, at My First Festival, I wore the same clothes and knickers for three days. Thinking that's 'what one does', I've since become wiser with age and now avoid all mud-related music festivals on principal. I do however still love dirrrty music. Luckily, Stag & Dagger and its one-ticket-gives-access-to-all-cool-East-End-music-venues offers clean (sorta) toilets and sh*t-hot bands from Micachu to The Mae Shi, White Denim to The XX. Tickets £15 adv., 7pm-3am, at tonnes of nice venues in The 'Ditch.

PLAYLIST

May 20: Music for the 2nd Bank Holiday
This week's great Track of the Week from Audio Sushi is Passion Pit vs The Mummers. Passion Pit's already classic track, Sleepyhead, gets a full-on Beatles-like make-over care of The Mummers to get this week's Urban Junkies Playlist of the Week - which is far, far from sleepy - off to an ever-cracking start.

OtherStreet Fest
Summer = festivals. A simple equation, to be sure. But sadly not all of these big ol' get-togethers are a mere bus ride from your front door. So, just on the off chance that you're not going to make it to either Bristol (yesterday) or Nottingham (today) for Dot To Dot, here's your alternative. A block party in the truest sense, expect music galore, film screenings, live street art, and a plethora of food stalls to keep you going.

NightlifeThe Book Club Boutique
You remember books, don't you? Funny little papery buggers full of words? Yes, yes, I know. In these days of 24 hour internet addiction, it's easy to forget the old favourites. Which is where an absolute diamond of literary salvation like this comes in - where sterling authors and spoken word artists combine with music, drinks and conversation to create a distinctly unpretentious air of actual, you know, fun. Oh, and books too. Yes, that's the point after all. Sort of.

7pm-12am

Dick's Bar, The Green Fingernail, 23 Romily St, W1D 5AQ

Whether you can just about tell a whisky from a gin or enjoy passionately arguing the merits of a bourbon/wine casked Bruichladdich over a cask strength Caol Ila, Whisky Month is the perfect time to celebrate the 'Water of Life'. And if you're only going to indulge in one Highland fling this year, then this cheese and whisky pairing session being held next Tuesday really ought to be it.

EAT & DRINK

Eastside Inn
Bjorn van der Horst has a pedigree to die for. Having trained under Robuchon and Ducasse he went on to win a Michelin star at Marlon Abela's fancy Mayfair spot The Greenhouse - where diners marvelled at his foie gras with espresso syrup and amaretto foam - before heading up one of Ramsay's swanky joints, Noisette.

And now he and his wife Justine have their very own baby, on the old site of Vic Naylor's on the achingly happening St John Street. There's a bistro bit, where we ate, and a restaurant, for finer dining, separated by an open kitchen and with a 'jazz lounge' at the back where you can while away the witching hours.

The menu in the bistro, which is nice and to-the-point with only four or five choices for each course, is rather hearty with things like bone marrow and oxtail marmalade on toast (delicious) and slow spit roast short rib of beef (good but hefty) - even the monkfish was swimming in cream. Not that we were complaining but it could do with lightening up as the weather gets warmer.

The only real downside was that our waiters didn't seem to know their a*se from their elbow, but considering the place has only just opened it's a minor quibble.

I noticed that Bjorn's foie gras is on the menu in the restaurant so I may well be back.
