Weekend Guide
Shoreditch - Ibiza

Well, I don't know about you lot, but our collective UJ kidneys are still aching. Maybe we're getting older, or maybe it was just the two bank holidays in one month that did it.

Either way, this is the last weekend of May, which means that here-on-in it's June and summer and joy and pool parties and barbecues all the way. Accordingly, we thought this should be a weekend of culture, speckled with just a hint of tantalizing distraction. That way you can behave during the day and then reward yourself with a few cheeky nights out in equal measure.

Call it a warm up or a bit of break, depending on how you play it.

nightlifeSunday Wine School
Wine with cheese, wine with chocolate, wine with more wine - whilst these are certainly the more common pairings that spring to mind, this is one fish-led session that deserves your attention. Including a thorough (and thoroughly delicious) education in most of the main grape varieties, the afternoon opens with a little prosecco, proceeds through a smattering of whites and a delicious three-course meal, before closing with a handful of gorgeous reds. Nothing fishy about that. (Except that last line.)

The Fish Shop on St John Street, EC1V 4NR

£75 adv, incl. three-course lunch

PLAYLIST

May 27: Short & Sweet
A little Morrissey mixed in with a dash of Polly Scattergood (remixed, naturally), thrown together with some heftily remixed Tricky, a splash of The Smiths, some Kylie Audist and even a little of the Smiths… Why, it's got to be Audio Sushi's inimitable Jeffrey Disaster back with his latest weekendalicious Urban Junkies Playlist of the Week.

EAT & DRINK

The Cadogan Arms
At risk of sounding like my mother, it's amazing what a warm welcome can do. The Cadogan Arms used to be one of those slightly scary looking pubs which, although it occupied a corner of the still cool and artsy part of the King's Road, you'd forgo stepping into in favour of the more scrubbed-up and airy Pig's Ear down the road.

Not any more however. The place has thankfully been snapped up by gastropub brothers Tom and Ed Martin (who also own The Gun in the Docklands and The Botanist in Sloane Square) and is now far more light and capacious with a nice big brick fireplace and three brand spanking new '8 ball' pool tables due to arrive upstairs any minute.

But the real welcome comes from assistant manager and adept mixologist Tim Homewood who makes a damn fine Bloody Mary and does so with genuine warmth and enthusiasm (God, I am sounding like my mother) - which, sadly, can be a rare thing in this city.

Anyway, all this meant that our ham hock and foie gras terrine, salmon and smoked haddock fishcakes and roast butternut squash, pear, baby gem, red onion and Barkham blue cheese salad (most mains around the £12 mark) tasted all the better.
