Around Town

Forks out, 15.10.19

Seabird

Okay, get your pencils out, this is a long one. First up, let’s start with the ones we can’t wait to get into- Decimo at The Standard (10th floor, Spanish/Mexican), and Toca Madera at the soon-to-launch Treehouse London (15th floor), also serving modern Mexican.

Reviews (click venue names below for reviews)

Next it’s the ones we’ve recently been into: Seabird, an instant fave with seafood up high, BaoziInn London Bridge is where you go for excellent roasted meats and XXL soup dumplings, and 34 Mayfair’s new Bloody Mary brunch is where you head for a Sunday treat.

Soft Launch

Now it’s onto soft launches. Today and tomorrow, London Bridge’s Bob’s Lobster is on soft launch of their new express lunch menu (deli sandwiches), with 50% off food and drink from 12-5. Also in LB, Legare (mo’ pasta) is on soft launch with 50% off, and lastly it’s Soho’s Kolamba, a new Sri Lankan on Kingly Street, on soft launch (50% food) until Saturday.

Coffee

Now it’s the recently opened caffeine crew: Ozone Coffee in Hackney (looks v stylish) and Kiss the Hippo in Fitzrovia.

West End

Over in Soho, on St Annes Ct. it’s the new steak sharing spot Zelman Meats, and on Dean Street it’s the new middle eastern restaurant Arma (with shawarma). Coming in Dec to Lower St. James Street, it’s Bancone with more (fresh) pasta, and in Belgravia, it’s Tom Aikens’ Muse featuring just 25 seats and a tasting menu. Over in Golden Square, it’s Foile, which they say will be a brasserie for the ‘Soho of today’, with DJs late into the night, which sounds fun (Nov launch).

East

Tomorrow sees Wilder launch at Boundary (British, seasonal); will be good to see something new in that space.  Over on Curtain Road is Emile, which looks like our kind of place (ex-Petersham chef); in Hackney it’s the Eastern Med charcoal grill focused Oren, and further afield it’s the very grown up, excellent, Allegra at The Stratford.

Wine

For wine, it’s Lyon’s in Crouch End (seafood and wine bar, with oysters from Wright Brothers), and the new Haymarket Wine House, (which actually looks quite cosy).

Food Court 2.0s

So, we still haven’t made it into the new 7 Dials Market, but looks great, and now in November, Borough Market is set to get its own upgrade, with more dining options (13 stands and 10 stalls so far!), and space to sit.

International/Out of London

St John is going to LA (so many LA/LDN transfers) next year, Hakkasan is going to Mexico (with diez venues no less), and Simon Rogan’s new spot Henrock is now open in the Lake District (dinner only), we want to go!
