Whether you live in London, are a frequent visitor, or even a first timer, this is a great way to see the sites. City Cruises leave from Tower Millennium Pier several times of day and travel down the Thames, with views of London’s finest sites.
Overview
First of all, this is one time you definitely need to make sure you splurge. The VIP packages here mean that you are the closest to the floor-to-ceiling windows – essential for viewing. Sort that out, which also comes with queue skipping, and you’ve positioned yourself well for a great trip.
Cruises
There are several different options – decide how long you want to be on the boat (lunch is one hour 45 mins, tea is 90 minutes, and dinner is three hours), as that’s a good place to start. No matter what cruise you do, you’ll glide past the London Eye, Tower Bridge, Houses of Parliament and St. Paul’s, while dining (and wine-ing, should you choose) down the Thames. If it’s sunny out, great, but the boat is covered, too.
Highlights
The commentary from the staff, with trivia and historical notes on landmarks as you pass them. We especially liked seeing (for the first time) the sign, ‘Entry to the Traitors’ Gate’, which was on a bridge that prisoners passed under on their way to the dungeon, from around 1543… Very happy we’re from the era where we’re drinking Champagne onboard, instead.
