Bao Bei

Chinatown's newest culinary catch.

One of the most anticipated openings on Vancouver's dining scene this year comes courtesy of Chambar alumni Tannis Ling, who left her bartending post behind to open this new fixture on Chinatown's culinary circuit. Decked out in old-school Chinese décor and seating only about 50, it serves beautiful Taiwanese cuisine influenced by Ling's mother's cooking. Dumplings feature heavily, the Crispy Fishes make a great sweet/salty appetizer, and Ellie's Belly - slow braised pork - is a winner.

Top Tip / UJ Loves: The 'Learn to Speak Chinese' card that comes with your bill, and includes such useful phrases as "It's not you, it's me" and "I'm not drunk yet."
