Café Medina

Belgian Waffles + Lavender Lattes = Love at first bite

The brainchild of husband and wife couple Nico and Karri Schuermans, Medina’s bistro style café serves up daytime alternatives to neighbouring sister site, Chambar (another UJ fave). Nico’s experience working in Belgium is evident from the first Fricassé to the perfect Cassoulets and Oeufs cocottes, whilst a Middle Eastern twist includes Tagines and Tabouleh (Medina is also named after the second holiest city in the world).

Those with a sweet tooth should head straight for the delicious Belgian waffles with dreamy toppings like white chocolate pistachio rosewater, chased with a milk chocolate lavender mocha. Comfortable and yet very chic, simple palm wood tables are lined up against exposed brick walls whilst a glass top bar serves up organic espresso by some of the hottest barristas around. Frequented by lots of industry types and beautiful people sipping on Moroccan mimosas (OJ infused with sumac, star anise and fig mixed with champagne), you’ll see a great cross section of Vancouver’s hip young movers and shakers here.

TOP TIP: Check out the new Dirty Apron cooking school next door. Opened in conjunction with Chambar it offers a 'culinary playground' of hands-on and demonstration-style masterclasses from knife skills and daring desserts to seafood specialties.
